Mossberg 930SPX vs. Benelli M4/Tactical

All right all you shotgun lovers. I have a question for you.

Lets just pretend that these two shotguns are equal in price. Both seem very nice to me. Is one significantly better than the other? I've read on here that Benelli makes one of the top notch shotguns in the world. Now, I've drooled over the M4 ever since seeing it on Mail Call with The Gunny. I even held one this weekend and it is nice. What do you all think?

I second the above post. I own a Super Black Eagle, and it is the smoothest shotgun I have ever fired. It kicks a bit more due to its design, but a small price to pay.

I have the 930 and love it. Its been flawless and holds 8 shells instead of 5. Benelli is nice but the price is crazy IMO and it holds 3 less shells. Makes no sense to me for a tactical shotgun.

Really? Both claim to have 7+1 capacity with 2.75" shells and 6+1 with 3" shells. This is, of course, with both having full length magazine tubes.

Benelli is the Rolls Royce. Is is worth the extra price versus the Moss from a practical standpoint? Probably not. A Honda will get you from point A to point B as easily as the Rolls, but the Rolls will get you there in style. I vote Benelli.

Might be something you don't care about but if you plan to run a pistol grip the mossberg safty is kinda dumbly placed whereas the benelli has it right by the trigger gaurd like normal (or at least like I am used to on so many other guns)

That is only true if you are right handed. If you are left handed like me then the safety being on the trigger guard makes it more difficult to work. That was the main reason that I chose a Mossberg over anything else. Just my 2 cents worth. :tiphat:

I would definitely lean towards the Benelli and if I can find the money I would get it ASAP. I have been leisurely trying to sell my Hayabusa to that end. I almost had it sold last month, but the guy backed out and bought a car instead. I may have to step up my efforts.

I must be wrong as when I was looking at them I was told and read it holds 5. As far as the safety goes if you use a standard stock the safety is in the perfect place. Its right by your thumb. Having by the trigger is a disadvantage unless you are using a pistol grip as has been said.

Nothing to defend. I was just adding to the very good point you brought up. In fact now I am wondering if I could get to the safety on the trigger guard with my thumb. Assuming that I had a pistol grip. Something for me to try sometime. Thanks for your input.

You are correct sir! A stock Benelli M4 has a 5+1 capacity with a faux tube extension. To get the 7+1 capability, you will need to purchase a US made full length tube along with a few other US made parts for it to conform with 922r.

KennyLee is right. I bought the extended tube.

Love my Benelli M4, but it was a heck of a price to pay for what is bascially a cadillac scatter gun. I used them overseas, and loved them. Only way I was able to justify buying one was the fact that it significantly reduces the recoil of a OO Buckshot, allowing my tiny wife to fire it comfortably and confidently if need be.

The action is slick... very slick. Shoots well. Carries well. It's balanced, and it is natural. So if you wanna spend the 1200 or so to buy it, I say go for it. You wont be disappointed. But if you can settle with the other, I would do that. Like I said, the only reason I didn't settle was because I knew that my wife needed something that was a little softer on her bony, 105 lb frame. :thumbs2:
