*I searched the forum for an answer, I swear!! "1911 Slide Lock" brings up over 177 threads and I didn't see anything*

I've got a Springfield Micro 3" and for some odd reason, it likes to lock back on almost every round fired. I have tried three different mags, and both SD and FMJ ammo. Same issue. I have kept a firm, steady grip on the pistol when firing, yet it keep happening.

Now, the slide lock seems to stick out far given the size of the pistol. I don't think I am doing it, but is it possible the recoil, given the position of my hand, would engage the slide lock?

Do they make very low profile slide lock pins to prevent this kind of issue?

I'm stuck and an normally a Glock guy.

What magazines have you tried?

Try a few different brands. Could also be the slide stop needs some tuning.

WIlson, Springfield, and Kimber.

Think a trip to the 'smith may be my best choice at this point? I'm not comfortable taking a dremel to anything honestly.

Depending on your grip, you may be putting slight upward pressure on the slide stop - it doesn't take much for it to engage during recoil. Maybe have someone else shoot it (and/or watch you shoot it) before paying a 'smith to look at it.

It's not the grip, it's a maladjusted part somewhere.

Call springfield. They will send you a label to ship it to them, they will fix it and return it.

Pull your slide stop and see if it is dimpled. The slide stop plunger will hold it in place while shooting if the slide stop has the dimple. I have a friend that had the same problem which was cured when he dimpled the slide stop.

This is the most likely culprit, after rewatching the 1911 gunsmith DVD

After customizing my SA Loaded Micro 3", it still had this problem and Ed Vanden Berg did a lot of upgrade tuning on mine which included dimpling the slide lock just as noted. Mine would lock open every other shot or so. Also had the mag release raised .040" to correct some feeding issues and slide lock work.

Another quick thing to try is the recoil springs. I have seen them do funny things on slide lockup, and they are inexpensive to replace.

Check the slide stop for copper marks from contacting rounds during cycling. If they're present - it is in the way.

Also - might try (SAFELY) manually cycling through some mags slowly to see what's going on.
