WOW, I never knew that the Police Academy was so expensive....We've spent about $1,500 on gun, ammo, and gear list, including uniforms, getting his name on the PT gear, and patches on the uniform, not counting the fingerprinting and Psych test needed.

He had to get a new gun out of the deal, which he needed for the academy. He was going to buy a Glock 22 or 23 but GT distributors who is Glock dealer and sells primarily to law enforcement was back ordered. He ended up going to his favorite gun store, which our 3 year old knows the name of and when we get there what store it is, Cheaper Than Dirt. Ended up with a Beretta PX4 Storm. Never knew buying a gun and gear will end up being taken off my taxes...

That actually sounds pretty low for that much stuff. Make sure you are buying quality gear, his life actually does depend on it.

how'd he do on the psych test?

even during the academy? I could see afterwards...

He should have got hired on with a Agency that supplied his gear.

Oh, I already have a Kahr CW45. I like the Ruger SR9C, but without having to add another caliber to the battery (we're mainly .40 and .45) in the house, we'll probably going to end up getting dual Ruger SR40C in the future. That's an AFTER graduation from the academy and getting on with a department purchases.

We don't have to worry too much about BUGs. He has PLENTY already....Rugers, numerous .40's and .45's...

Oh we are. This is more of academy stuff. Once he gets on with a department, everything most will be department issue hopefully. If not, we'll get more quality gear.

He passed it just fine. They didn't give him the results, but he got accepted so I guess it was okay. Took them forever to get him the results over to the academy but it finally got done.

Well, he would have but he felt like that if he already HAD his TCLEOSE when he gets hired on, it will be better because he's more marketable, they won't have to send him through the academy and spend that extra money themselves. Saves them money. The academy itself is $1,000, PLUS the gear which is a good $1,500 or more, depending on what quality of gear they get.

...it's great that he gets to choose his own gear...doesn't have to put up with lesser quality if the dept. issues cheap stuff...we began by buying our own...after about 4 years, Federal money bought us all new revolvers, rigs, and 18 rounds of ammo each...we were told no modifications, no changes..no more ammo... made outlaws of us all...I fought the brass to get Packy grips on mine...buying your own gives you some options "issue" gear won't...smart thinking to get ready-to-go before applying...most who apply won't be that serious about it...sounds like your husband is going to make a great officer...

He actually hasn't gotten on with a department yet, he's just putting himself through the academy.

I think him being a better officer has something to do with him being in the military for 4 years and being around PMO and learning the hard way. We'll get the good stuff after he gets on with a department.

I'm truly thankful there are men like your husband around.

What academy is he going to?
