Today while house sitting for my parents I heard some noise coming from the back room. I got up went to the hall and saw through the blinds there was someone moving. I had my hand on my gun ready to draw when I called out, my sister responded. Apparently she did not think I was there.I gave her a very stern warning about coming in though the window and advised her to try the front door next time. All things considered, I think I handled it well. I was calm the whole time and was able to focus on the perceived threat.

Could have ended a whole lot worse!!!

No warning shot?

Along those same lines:

My across the street neighbors sleep with their front door wide open during good weather like we have had lately with cool nights (one of their dogs needs to be let out often) good neighborhood generally but odd things occur sometimes like a guy 3 blocks away (actually NEXT DOOR to the police station) fired a shotgun into the house of his relatives "accidentally" ("negligently," but he fired on purpose... and said he didn't mean to hit anyone) crippling a young niece.

Anyway, I may or may not have my window open, but not front door. Twice I woke to find my sister-in-law sitting on my front porch in the dark and I tell her RING THE DOORBELL it's safer than me hearing someone "trying to be quiet" at my front door before sunrise. She's sweet, didn't want to wake me, but the first time I had been awake about 2 hours watching a movie while she sat outside ...

I have a little window in my door I peek through prior to opening anyway, that's when I saw a person on my porch in the dark ... but there's enough moon light/ambient street light to recognize her.

I have "napped" with the door open, and neighbors who constantly see my with a pistol in my shorts seem to be bright enough to HOLLAR upon approaching the porch/door before they ever reach it .... people in the country used to do that, honk when you drive up or something so residents out in the barn /pasture know they have visitors ... lots of "country habits" in this small town, everyone waves at everyone they don't know ... if someone doesn't wave back, it's some city feller who don't know better or needs watchin if he's upta no good lol

I thought that was rule 3? Isn't rule 1 always treat every gun as if it's loaded?

Also, good job not shooting your sister. (I know the wording is a bit odd, but I'm completely serious.)

She came by today. This time she texted first, seems she learned a lesson.

That's a normal response...sure, she needs to be shot. Riiight. You or a child never lost the house key and tried to get in an open window? If your kid lost his / her keys and came through an open window, they need to be shot.
