Yesterday, I decided to go to Dallas Pistol Club, "Real World Gun", IDSA-style match and compete with my PX4 SC. I used 17-rds magazine.

The match was very challenging. For example, on stage 5, we had to shoot 4 2" steel targets (usually are used for 0.22 rifle matches) at 15 yrd. With support of cover, I was able to hit all those tiny targets but after a lot shots fired

On Other stage, There are good-guys no-shoot targets in front of the BG on a swinger at distance of 15 yrds.

I am not that expert nor had very much experience competing with sub-compact. I am pretty sure that I would be ranked at bottom of the all shooters. Maybe I should work on fixing this problem, more range time with my EDC PX4 SC

This leads me to a concern that using a sub-compact to engage anything 10-15 yrd+ is like spray and pray
Remedies:
1) more range time with sub-compact
2) carry a larger pistol and with help Open carry, we don't have to worry about hot-summers of Texas.

I think it's good to know your limitations with your carry piece, and always work to improve your skills....

That said, however, I also don't see what the problem is with concealing a full size, if that's your comfort zone piece.

Not to hijack the thread, but here is some related info about SC vs Compact carrying.

My second pistol (now for home duty) is HK P30. I used to carry it in a smartcarry, works very well and in Tommy's funny pack(most at night with laser/ligh, or on a picnic). I have also a Serpa holster that I used for competition and carrying under a jacket in short winter times in TX. I also have a pancake style OWB leather holster that I used only 1-time when I was carrying in formal suit.

With PX4SC in a smartcarry works great anytime, anywhere even in shorts with no T-shirt!

As for iWB, I got one home-made for the PX4SC and I found it to tough to put on and not easy on you when seated down in your car. I guess I need to modify it a bit and trim some of the leather below the the muzzle. Or, shifted to to 4 o'clock.

Putting on the IWB on the pants before you put on your pants is a good tip

The downside for the smart carry is drawing while you are seated in car. Solution, use the zipper.

Remedies:

While not necessarily "spray and pray", the sub-compacts are definitely more challenging to shoot accurately, and that challenge increases as range to target increases. Defensive encounters are generally not that far away, and occur well within the "effective" range of most sub guns, and shooters, alike.

Never a bad idea. However, I'd recommend a combination of range time and competition both. Range time is a good place to work on fundamentals, and competition will allow you to apply them on the move and under the clock.

Always an option...minus the open carry part.

When it comes down to it, you can carry whatever gun you want, as long as you are willing to make the appropriate accommodations. I carry a full size gun because I LIKE shooting it, it's the gun I compete with, and it has the power I desire. Using an IWB holster, concealment is easy wearing shorts or long pants, as long as you are using the right kind of shirt.

Is it possible hijack your own thread?

Open carry means there is no more fear if someone is carrying OWB under lightshirt and you are really "Printing". There is no need to carry in an indoor mall with 100% visible gun.

Through the fly,whatever that means, it works with small sub compact or even a compact.
1) unzip
2) grab the grip, or let us say get a grip

I have a Smart Carry as well as many other conventional holsters. I find the Smart Carry to be one of the most comfortable ways
to carry a small gun like the Beretta Sub Compact, I have one.

You do not unzip or draw through the fly. All you need to do pull the belt out a bit with your weak side thumb, reach in and grab the pistol.

I think I can do that as fast as any regular holster. The only time I use the Smart Carry is in hot weather while wearing shorts and a tee shirt.
It is totally concealed!!
