Hello.

I will be attending a Glock Armorer course to become certified as part of my job. I have already learned to completely dissemble and resemble every component, change trigger pull weight, and so on.

My question is, has anyone here been through the course? What should I expect? Any tips?

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Sneak me in ...

No need to sneak in, GT distributor's offers that class on a regular basis. Glock will teach the course to any GSSF member or FFL. Some departments do host LE only classes, but a lot of the classes allow GSSF members. The classes do fill up early though.

Well, I have taken the course and am now certified ..as seen in my new signature line.

The class was great. It really helped that I was already familiar with the complete tear-down of the Glock. The eight hour class was filled with Law enforcement from around the state and I think I was the only civilian in the room. There were 35 students in attendance.

We each used a G23 as our training gun. Over the course of the day we must have taken the gun down forty or fifty times and reassembled it in different configurations in order to learn to diagnose and correct all possible problems that we may come across when inspecting, maintaining, repairing and modifying a Glock.

I will find this new knowledge especially helpful as our store sells and modifies more Glocks than any other brand.

P.S. ...Still love and carry my 1911

I did notice a couple of Kimber manuals laying around in the lobby area though.
I flipped through them on my lunch break.

Congrats! That is very cool. I have never owned a Glock, but would like to obtain one in the not too distant future. Has your impression of the pistol changed, either for the better or worse, now that you have become so intimately familiar with it?

Thanks karder. Yes, I always knew Glock was a great gun in terms of durability and reliability. However, I never fully appreciated them until I had a chance to see how well these guns are manufactured and the thought that goes into the production.

Now after having a complete understanding of how the internal parts interact with each other and knowing how the gun operates, I'm amazed at the genious but simple design.

I have to ask. Did they say anything about the FTE/FTF problems with G4 glocks? I heard about the recall issued last month for the recoil springs but am curious if it was brought up during the class and if so, what was said. I want to get a G4, but have been holding off until they get this issue fixed.

Yes it was addressed. Basically the precentage of reported problems were very small compared to the number of gen4's realeased. Some of the claims could not be directly linked to the manufacturing process/design of the dual recoil spring and the issue was only with the initial guns released and has since been corrected.

Nonetheless, Glock will quickly send out a new recoil spring assembly with a simple phone call to them.

I'm kinda bummed because the next class that's even remotely close for me to take is in January in FtW. The problem there is that I'm trying to save to take the Springfield Armory 1911/M1A/XD armorer class in Feb. Maybe I'll have a garage sale and sell some extra stuff around the house...I never use that big screen TV anyway
