Trying to be calm about my child's indoctrination

Child excitedly came home from middle school today. He proudly went to the computer in our living room to play a video for his mom...people singing the Koran. Then went on to explain that Islam meant "peace" and that those people were friendly and that only a few people were responsible for 9/11.

:mad5

Then I showed him this:
http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2011/10/0 ... s-to-grow/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and this
http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/200 ... e-US_N.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
and a few other links, not to mention a lecture about the roots of 9/11 (for which the school is apparently working hard to dhiminish <- catch the pun there?)

Then I told him to deduce what kind of "Peace" it really meant by examining actions and not words. I didn't inundate him with details about Sharia and the Dhimmi mindset.

I'm sure I'll be called by the school tomorrow and they will attempt to forcibly pacify both him and I, pointing out that the Koran is chock full of teddy bears, unicorns, and sweet smelling flowers. :rules:

Yeah, I'd be pretty :mad5 too. If they don't call you by the time school's out tomorrow, I might call them to "comment".

Why are they teaching anything about religion in public school? Don't take that wrong but religion should be taught in church/home not public school, remember that church state thing in the Constitution.

It's a "global cultures" class. Pretty sure that's a euphemism for "indoctrination".

I'd be interested on how much time they devote to the Hebrew/Israel "culture" and the Christian "culture" which evolved from it.
Islam isn't a "culture," it's a religion practiced in many "cultures" in Africa, Turkey, America and many many varied "cultures, it has little to do with "culture" as the "culture" varies by locale. In ancient "culture" each thing had a "god" the tree god, the lake god ... and animalism. I would ask where they cover that ... I sure hope they cover the significance of the Native American white buffalo ....

I'd seriously call/e-mail contact thru their website the ACLU too, they need something to keep them busy so they stay out of more trouble.

Can you please point out the location of the words "separation of church and state" in the Constitution of the United States of America to me ? I keep hearing they are in there, but amazingly enough I just can't seem to locate them. I did find the following though:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

I see "respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"...

(And yes, I know all about the letter to the Danbury Baptist Church, thank you.)

Now, I don't want my kids to be indoctrinated into ANY religion at school, either; it doesn't matter to me if its Baptist, Catholic, Islam, Buddhism or any other faith. I don't want them getting a sermon about fire and brimstone, a lesson on why Sharia is the best, or that they'll have bad "karma" if they own too much stuff. But, the way folks go on about this "separation of church and state" thing and use it to stop kids and teachers from saying ANYTHING religious has simply gone too far. And many of the folks who are against ANY expression of religion in school aren't merely anti-religious, but also against the STANDARDS that religions bring with them. I have my beliefs, but I do not push them on others. However, the STANDARDS in this nation have been EXTREMELY eroded in the past few decades and I believe that has had an extremely negative effect on the nation as a whole. Someone exercising their RIGHT to the free exercise of their personal religious beliefs is not the same as proselytizing someone into a particular faith or FORCING them to worship according to certain dictates. A group of political ZEALOTS in this nation has punished and pushed out the former while using a trumped up specter of the latter as cover to do so. The Founding Fathers would NOT be amused by this turn of events anymore than they would be by a "national religion".

Religion should be taught as a part of culture and history in our schools. It shouldn't be pushed upon anyone but neither should it be ignored or repressed.

I would be very interested to know how much time they devote to the Christian religion, to Judaism, to Zorastrians, to Buddism, to Siks, etc etc etc. and to see if they painted such a rosy picture of them as well. Yet another reason why we opt out entirely of the gov't schools. Not everyone can do that I understand, but this type of thing is part of the reason we do.

My previous point was I don't want our schools teaching religion, as they will screw it up.

They don't. It's part of an apologizing plan for all these years we've tried to take revenge on that small handful of 9/11 fanatics by killing lots of innocent people, don't you know?

It's public middle school, I _expect_ a lack of depth and honesty. It doesn't mean I have to tolerate it, and it's my responsibility to make sure the children in my household understand that they are only seeing one side of a picture. It helps them question the authority of the schools as well. While one could say that teaching children to question authority in middle school might be misguided, I tend to believe strongly that I should raise sheepdogs, not sheep.

Let the school have fits, I don't care.

P.S. -- He's taking a printout of the article on Yousef Nadarkhani to school tomorrow and asking his teacher to explain how a "peaceful religion" could do such a thing.

Ah, but Islam is MORE than a religion...it's is a religion, a global culture, and a codified set of laws that are best summarized in one word: "Submit."

Good for you! Way to make the establishment squirm a bit. Nothing like sunlight as a disinfectant of stupidity.

Oh, dear, one of the many reasons we homeschool...we knew the school system would be able to deal with us, the parents. :evil2:
