I already have a CHL, but my wife is thinking about getting one. I have a question regarding the range part. The gun she would be using holds less than 10 rounds. On the course of fire, I see that one stage at the 3 yard line is listed as:

2 shots in 3 seconds, 5 times

So how is it handled when a mag holds less than 10 rounds? Just swap mags or what? I forget how they did the timing. I know we had some folks qualifying with revolvers too but don't recall how they handled it.

We loaded 6 rounds (regardless of how many your gun could hold). We did 2 shots in 3 seconds 3 times in a row. Reloaded 6 more rounds. 2 shots in 3 second 2 more times and then the 3 shots in 5 seconds or something like that. Every course of fire we did was with 6 rounds loaded at a time.

It's been a while and I'm up for renewal next year, but since I am unaware of a revolver that holds ten rounds there has got to be a way to do this.

The Arms room will have the shooters load 5 at a time, except for the times you do 3 double taps, then you 6 and 4, and then back to the 5 rounds each

Don't you have to qualify with something bigger than .22LR?

Must be 32 caliber or larger.
I have folks load 6 then 4 for the 10rd X 2shot exersize. If someone has to shoot a 5 shot revolver I do 4,4 & 2.

All I remember is that .22LR is too small. If it's gotta be .32 or bigger, does that mean you couldn't qualify with a FiveSeveN, AR-15 pistol, or AK-47 pistol?

Yes it must be a .32 or larger just thought I would show y'all this.

How about the old school LeMat revolver? Sure, the cylinder is only 9 shots, but the center barrel makes 10 shots total.

The test is a workaround to include revolvers that load five rounds - each string involves five rounds or less depending on the shots required and repeated events, a reload (not a speed reload BTW) between strings, and another string. Some instructors will separate out the revolver folks if another RSO is available so the course of fire is easier for them (and the semiauto people can just blast away to the agreed upon capacity (say, having to consider mouse gun capacity), but five rounds is what most instructors load and shoot for a string (keeps everybody on the same page). But - IMHO - completing the course with a semiauto (begged, borrowed, rented) is the best way...

Take the qualification with a Semi so you will be qualified with both on the license. You can usually rent one and some instructors will let you borrow one.
We did reloads of 5 after each firing.
