I just wanted to ask a queston. I worked in Louisiana back in 1990 for a about two months and did not make very much money. I made about $2000.00 and I dont remember if I fileld the State income taxes or not I think I did but I dont remember. I have never herd from Louisiana saying I did not pay or did not file. Can this make it so Texes will not give me a CHL?
Thanks

Highly unlikely. In all likelihood you would be exempt from any taxes in LA making only $2K. With deductions and the such I would think you were safe. Of course this is only my humble opinion, (JMHO) for internet gurus.

I think you're way outside the statute of limitations, even then, that amount hardly qualifies you as a tax cheat. Hell, it barely qualifies as "income" these days

At the time you were employed in LA, did your employer deduct LA State Taxes from you check?
More than likely they did, and if that is the case, all that happened, was you gave the State of Louisiana a few dollars, and never attempted to reclaim it!
If I remember correctly, from a short stint working over there, they cannot go after you after 5 years!
Nonetheless, from what I know (which is not much) it does not qualify as a disqualification for under the CHL background check.
On another note, if you have purchased a firearm from a FFL Dealer, and undergone that background check with no problem, you typically are free an clear!
Although, I am by no means and expert, this is just my opinion based on study and experience!

For the CHL, Texas only cares about delinquent taxes if they're owed to the State of Texas or an agency or political subdivision thereof.

I thought that this quote meant if you were delinquent with taxes from any state then you would be disqualify for a CHL. Thanks so much for letting me know. I also thank all of you for your info. It sound like I should not worry about this disqualifying me from getting my CHL.
Thanks

Even though you may not have earned enough money to owe taxes, it is against the law not to file. If, sometime in the future, the state of LA decided to file charges against you for not filing, then you may not qualify for a Texas CHL. I suggest that you file a tax return, just in case. IANAL.

Not necessarily. They must be eligible to purchase to be eligible for a CHL but that's only one of the requirements. Theres money stuff like taxes and child support. There's also misdemeanor records like multiple DWI that can disqualify them from CHL but won't block the sale.

IIRC most LA residents don't pay taxes. I bet they hardly notice.

That's a big
IF. What's the criminal charge for failure to file in Louisiana? Just failure to file, assuming withholding was enough to cover the required tax owed. Also, is the statute of limitations for the offense more than 20 years?

That isn't accurate. When I first got my Texas license, it was a non-resident license because I was not yet a legal Texas resident. They made it perfectly clear that the tax situation applied to any taxes owed in the other state.

I don't know what they told you but the law seems pretty clear.

...Texas Govt. Code 411.172(1) says ...legal resident of this state... and later on says (11)has not been finally determined to be delinquent in the payment of a tax or other money collected by the comptroller, the tax collector of a political subdivision of the state, or any agency or subdivision of the state;.......these pertain to Texas only...
...that all pertains to Texas...but if La. has issued a warrant...are you a fugitive??? are the charges a felony??? those things, if yes, would make you ineligible...no matter what state the crimes happened in...this part is about your status as a felon or fugitive...anywhere...

I would wager LA most likely owes you money than the other way around. Get it cleared up.
