A man attempting to rob a Los Angeles motel at gunpoint was tackled and restrained by two mixed martial artists who had just checked in.

The fighters spent several minutes tussling with the suspect after they encountered him in the motel's foyer, the Los Angeles Times reported Friday.

Moments earlier, the suspect, Luis Rosales, burst into the motel clerk's office and forced him to fill a bag with cash.

The martial artists managed to get Rosales, 31, in a body lock and chokehold, and the clerk called the police. Rosales was arrested at the scene.

Police commended Brent Alvarez, 33, and Billy Denney, 28, for stepping in.

The men, from Oregon, are competing Saturday in the World Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Championship.

"I might have more butterflies than usual because I already had my fight for this week," Alvarez told the newspaper.

Good story. I am glad it turned out well for all parties but he was initially armed with a gun and it could have ended badly for one or more people.

No kidding. A friend of mine is an instructor. I'm considerably larger than he is and I wouldn't want to pick a fight with him.

Man, anyone else notice how cool the clerk was about it? That guy was not even a little afraid...

...I expected more action from the two martial artists...all they did was rassle him down...but they got the job done...that's what counts...the way the guy acted, he was impaired...the way he "handled" his gun...seemed strange...and the cops strolling in casually seemed strange, too...

I found this quote strange
The fighters struggled for several minutes to subdue the armed man without hurting him

then if you read farther down the qoute one of the guys as saying he didnt know what he was thinking at the time and that he should have just knocked him out, from the sound of it they watched him drop the gun in the bag just before they confronted him

...some folks have made up their mind to do what it takes to win...others try to be nice about it...this time, it turned out well...too well for the robber, in my opinion...
