Mrs. Chemist and I arrived at Best of the West at 9:30 and the parking lot (aka field) was half full (Opening was scheduled for 10am).
Once they opened the gates, the line moved quickly.
We were able to get a couple of the NRA range bags they handed out.
Once inside, the wind kicked up and the dust was everywhere. It continued all day long. I'll say this, I did not see a single failure of any firearm due to the dust, so the LaRue stuff functions well in a very dirty environment.

We wanted to shoot the "Top Shot" stage which was a LaRue OBR shooting at 3 targets. You had to pick up the gun, take it off safe and hit 3 targets before the person you were shooting against hit their three. This was especially difficult due to the high wind pushing you around.
Best time won an OBR that was used in the show Top Shot. The winner was a wounded vet with a time of 4.35 seconds. He said he was donating the gun to the Wounded Warrior Project to raffle off.
Very cool!

While waiting in line for the Top Shot stage, Dustin (this year's Top Shot) wandered by and I got to shake his hand and take a picture with him.
The guy has huge hands! I'm sure that helped him out in the competition.

We had to wait an hour to shoot that stage, but the other stages were only about a half hour wait each. Most of the shooting was with AR's and you usually had 5 rounds. We shot Trijicon and Aimpoint sights depending on the stage we shot.
The wait for food was only about 10min before noon and looked a lot longer immediately after noon.

We had fun poking around in the vendor tent and twice got free mags from the Magpul guys.

All in all, it was a fun day and definitely worth the $30 per person admission.

I thought the DPS demonstration was cool. I ended up getting 3 free pmags and and some trigger time on a bunch of rifles I can't afford, so all and all I have to agree a good day.

It was a fun day. Still getting dirt outta my ears and my gear. :)

Highlight of the day for me was talking with Dustin Ellermann (Top Shot Season 3 Winner) early in the morning, and watching him shoot on the stage I was a Safety Officer (Aimpoint Stage). He really is a good shot, as well as a very nice person.
