Ar rifle kit choices

So, after bouncing around a bunch of different ideas for my first AR build, finally decided I wanted to build a classic 20" rifle, A2 stock, throw a detachable carry handle on it for a KISS rifle.
Looking at 2 different rifle kits.
Palmetto State armory has a kit for $540, with a FN barrel.

Del-Ton has a rifle kit as well but for $465, seems like the same thing only not the FN barrel.

Is the FN barrel or having a matching brand upper/lower worth the extra $80?

Nope. Delton is good stuff for the money. I've bought several of their uppers.
Matching upper and lower is only important if you have a high-end gun with a name brand.

CMMG has a few kits available too.

The only one I own with a matching upper and lower is a Bushmaster I bought fully assembled.

It actually drops to about $55 once you add the carry handle and shipping. The only difference I noticed between the 2 was the barrel twist, 1:7 on the PSA, 1:9 on the del-ton. According to the reviews from del-ton's website, you might be waiting a while for that upper. The last review on 11/01/11 stated he waited 13 weeks to get his.

The PSA kit should be good. I built a 20 incher using their parts before they had the kit available.
Used a CMMG barrel and the rest are PSA parts, rock river A2 stock. Works pretty good.

I've bought uppers from both PSA and DelTon and I was much happier with the PSA product. It just simply looked better to me. The wait time on the DelTon was longer as well.

I have built 3 Del Ton kits. They all work great.

I think the twist rate is more important that the manufacturer when it comes to the barrel unless you are building a precision/target type rifle. The 1/9 twist will generally shoot the lighter weight ammo(55gr) more accurately wear the 1-7 twist wants the heavier(62-69gr) ammo for better accuracy. Either will do, but the 55gr ammo is what is the most widely available. For a plinking fun gun it doesn't really matter IMO.
