Remington 700 Trigger Adjustment

I'm one of the many folks who own a Remi 700 BDL and have found that it is a wonderfully accurate rifle. Mine was made sometime in the 70's, has some beautiful factory scroll work on the receiver, and was one of those rare $275.00 pawn shop finds that I love to brag about. :hurry: :hurry:

The main complaint with mine is that I've never liked the trigger. It is too stiff and there was no travel before it fired. I always had to squeeze & squeeze and I never could learn when it would trip. I was constantly looking to see if the safety was still on. I learned to shoot the big bolt actions with a very nice two stage trigger and was looking at getting one for this rifle but never wanted to spend the money.

I recently learned that it can be adjusted fairly easily. I know I was born behind the barn at night but I never really knew it was adjustable. At least the older rifles have the "user adjustable" trigger assembly. As I understand it, the newer 700's have triggers that are fixed.

Anyway, the well talked about safety issue on this model can both be duplicated and fixed by properly adjusting the trigger. The Sear Engagement, Over Travel and Trigger Pull can all be adjusted to the shooters liking.

Of course, I say "user adjustable" in quotes because screwing this up of course can have serious consequences but if you are patient and meticulous, even an old country boy redneck like myself can get that trigger exactly the way I want it. It's not as crisp as that other rifle I learned on but I now have a tiny bit of travel, the resistance stiffens up a bit, and then it fires.

Heres the link. Take your time.
