I decided to purchase a 1911 for Xmas, ok so it came early this year. After being on a National Guard pistol team many years age I swore that I would never own one, back then they were old Colts with thousands of rounds through them and we could not do any work to them, it was more like shoot and pray that they hit center target.

It is amazing how much information there is on 1911's and just as many opinions as to which one is best...... Being a Sig guy I looked at theirs first and really liked what I saw, then again I do not think that Sig is known for their 1911's. Then came Kimber, STI etc, it is easy to get confused with all the 1911's on the market. I ended up with the Springfield EMP in 9mm (ok I know a real 1911 is in 45) and after 2 range trips (200 rounds) I can honestly say that I am thrilled with my decision, not a single issue and much more accurate tham my old eyes are. After some testing with various hollow points to find which ones cycle the best it will be added to my carry rotation with my 357 LCR. IWB holster was ordered from TT Gunleather and they are only 8 to 10 weeks out these days, for now it semi fits a Galco OWB for my P239, just a tad bit loose so I will need to do some research and find a quality leather OWB for it.

Does anybody have an EMP with over 1000 rounds through it? I am wondering how much the trigger breaks in as mine is just a tad too stiff? What are you using for holsters?

Amen. While I, too, prefer .45 ACP, I also remember my uncle's Government Model. His personal pistol was a Colt in .38 Super, acquired while he was on the Border Patrol in the late 40's to the mid 50's. Of course, his was nickel-plated and stag-gripped "so everyone in the county could see it".

As a WWII Marine and a former LEO with scars to prove it, his opinions carried some weight with me.

I don't own an EMP, but I do own a Springfield 1911, and it is my experience that their triggers come out of the box somewhat heavier than one would expect for the platform. I've had my Loaded model, which I bought used, worked on by my son. The trigger was at about 6 lbs before, and he cleaned it up and lightened it to 4.5 lbs, and it is a very nice trigger now......light pull with very little take-up and a very clean break.

Point is....your trigger issue may just be due to the nature of Springfield 1911s. I have a 3" Kimber, on the other hand, which came out of the box with a very nice trigger. It's not that the Springfield trigger was terrible. It was still better than most other guns. It just wasn't typical fare for a 1911. Now it is. The good news for yours is that there is just a tad over 100 years of experience now in tuning these things, and you can make them so good you'd be happy to never own another pistol.

About Sig 1911s.....the only truly bad 1911 I've ever owned was a Sig GSR Stainless Carry—a very sexy looking Commander sized gun. But she was a fickle and unreliable thing, jamming on about every 3rd round, no matter what I did to her. I kicked her to the curb and traded her on the Kimber, and never looked back. I know that others have had good experiences with Sig 1911s, and they look beautifully made. But mine was a lemon, and it was bad enough to convince me to never buy another one. I think Sig should stick to what they do best. Now, a SAO P220 in .45? I would love to have one. But no more of their 1911s for me.

If you get a chance I would love to see a pic of the feed ramp and lower front of the barrel. Maybe if you take the slide off for cleaning. Been trying to find some pics of the EMP feed area on Google with no luck.

Just get a trigger job. Gunsmith labor is cheaper than ammo.

Beautiful blaster. I rented one at my local range and really liked it. I could not afford it at the time not can I now, but it is on my list of guns to buy.

Excellent choice, I have two (his and hers ) and they are superb. Love those Davidson's grips, I need to get a pair of those for mine.

I think the trigger was a little heavier than my other high end 1911s, but it smooths out after a while. I probably have 500-600 rounds through both of mine.

Get you some EMP mags now from Springfield while they have them on sale for 30% off :)

my friend has an EMP with 1000+ rounds trigger does smooth out.

another way to make is smooth is to completely armor strip the pistol, and polish the trigger bar where it contacts the frame, as well as the trigger channel. I DO NOT recommend doing any polishing of the sears unless you really know what you are doing but a good polish on the trigger bar and channel will help make it smoother and could lighten roughly .5-.75 lbs.
