I removed the price paid as it was too low to be advertised on a forum. If anyone is serious about ordering a Brown, just let me know and I will give you my Dealer's info and you can contact him direct for a price quote on a Model and any factory options you want on it at prices much lower than ordering directly from Brown.

Does anyone here know why it is called the Special Forces model? This is not a quiz. I am just curious what the story is.

I don't think it's any direct relation to SOCOM; just a name for the pistol. This one comes standard with what Brown is calling Gen III, a special thermoset polymer coating he's licensed from a third-party manufacturer that was already selling to the military. This is the first time Brown has used a third-party coating, and he says it's because it's the first time anything has met his standards. Supposedly this stuff offers the best wear resistance and corrosion protection to date, and outperforms all other polymers in the Taber abrasion test.

My bet is that "Special Forces" is just a model name that's designed to convey extreme use durability and reliability.


Oh, and Alan: If you ever need a place to, uh, er...store, that's it store your new pistol when you have to go out of town or something, just let me know.

Sounds incredible, does Ed Brown give accuracy guarantee like a few other high end companies do?

Nope they do not. But they are just as accurate (or better) and don't leave all the tool marks inside the pistol that the 1" guarantee crowd does!

Picked up today at LGS. It is all that it should be! Pictures do not do it justice and the slide is smooth as butter. Serial number is 100XX. Interesting that it turned up in my hands on the anniversary of Pearl Harbor......

I immediately replaced the grips with some Amboyna Burl Roscco's I already had. I had some Sarge's nice smooth Walnut but they appeared to be too dark for my taste on this dark gun. Maybe it's just me since most all of my other 1911's are stainless......

I changed out the GI Plug (Gen3) to a polished flat Stainless one to better match the barrel end and bushing. Also changed the black hollow GI rod for a EGW SOLID Stainless one I had (standard GI length).
