Since my arsenal doesn't have the recommended daily allowance of ammo yet and I'm always looking for ways to save money and/or shoot more, does anyone know of a site that posts ammo prices? It seems that mail order, Wal-Mart, Academy, etc can vary greatly and it sure would be nice to know when a deal is out there and I could stock up. For instance, I heard that Sportsmans Warehouse had a deal on 9mm 250 round megapacks just before Thanksgiving at only $25/box. Maybe something for this forum to consider?

I believe it works based on credit card receipts and you do know that every item you purchase with a credit card gets into a database. How else would they know what should get the extended warranty

Best deal on 9mm I can find locally is Walmart for WWB at $12.88/100. I don't shoot the steel cased ammo, os that's the cheapest I've been able to find. Gun shows are a joke now to try to buy ammo at.

I've been getting the M855 5.56 ammo for $4.95/20 at GunMaster in Plano, Tx. for my AR.

Well, if you have the time, you ought to get into reloading. You can jump into it for less than $200. Right now I'm reloading .357 rounds for less than 10 cents a round, which is very good compared to the factory ammo that costs closer to a quarter a round.

I have as much fun reloading as I do the actual shooting. It also improves your accuracy as well.

I just paid $6.83/50 for WWB at Academy, which is a bit more (but I didn't have to go into WM ;) ). Used to be $4.86/50 last year.

BTW, Streicher's has good prices on defense ammo (e.g. HydraShok, HST, Gold Dot). I just ordered some from them and it arrived very quickly.

Shipping costs, especially on small quantities, can eat up "savings" pretty quickly.

Just this morning I ordered a single box of some special .45 Colt +P hunting loads from Double Tap. The box of 50 rounds was $25 - and UPS Ground was $11.

I paid $17.76 S&H for UPS ground on 400 rounds (I got 100 rounds each of 4 different types, to test in my G19). I thought it was fair since they're charging $16/50 for HydraShok (one example) and everywhere else wants about $15-18 for 25. The order must have gone out within 24 hours of my order, because it arrived in just a couple days.

I have generally found that Academy has real good prices, but they do have issues with keeping their low priced ammo in stock. However unlike Walmart, they almost always has someone at the counter to help you.

AR15.com has an ammo section where they update ammo prices regularly, especially black rifle food. I just bought 1000 rounds of Fiocchi .223 for $289 free shipping. Academy wants over 6 bucks for Monarch 223 (20/box). I also bought 1000 45 acp 230 gr fmj (Federal) for $259. Ammoman has free shipping.

UPS lady had to break out the hand truck.

The prices for handgun ammo can be examined easily as well on the sites on AR15.com.

Thanks for all the sites. I'll check them out. As for reloading, I had a RCBS starter kit when I was in high school but can't find my setup after the many moves in college, grad school, getting married, etc. That was mainly for rifle calibers and most of my shooting tends to be pistols these days. I do take a look at the reloading section of this forum on occasion but I can't wait until I win the lottery so I can quit work and afford to shoot more

I bought the mega pack of 250 rounds of 9mm from Academy yesterday for $36.97. It would have been a little bit cheaper to get the 50/box Winchester, but I like them all in the same box.

I used to buy those mega packs thinking they were the cheapest (back when I first started shooting) and hated the fact that they aren't individually packaged. I.e. if you don't use all 250 rounds at once, the remaining rounds spill easily from the trays inside that "mega pack" box.

I remember well trying to carry the mega packs upright between match stages... usually not so successively.
