I have an AR lower that I'm going to use as my son's first rifle and we're building it together. Step 1 is to assemble the lower. What lower parts kit (LPK) would you recommend and why?

If you are looking for a basic kit without a custom trigger, I recomend the Magpul kit offered by Palmetto State. It includes an LPK, buffer tube, and a Magpul MOE grip, trigger guard and stock for $125. The parts combined are worth at least $150. Just MHO.

This is what I installed on my AR.

At different times I have used DPMS, CMMG and the one Model 1 sells. Have not really had any problems with an of them, but I prefer the CMMG as the machining and finish on the trigger and hammer parts are cleaner and more polished than the others. I am building one for myself and helping a friend build 2 next week. It is a good way to get familiar with your AR platform. After building lowers, the next step is uppers--more tools and toys for big boys.

I have a Stag and PSA, I like the PSA trigger a lot better. It's priced well and they have a ton of different setups on their site so get whatever you want that way you aren't changing grips and triggers and having 2 of everything.
