Marlin 1895G in 45-70 government. It's basically a regular 1895 with a shorter barrel.

Wasn't it originally designed to be a 1 shot buffalo stopper? It' would have to be one heck of a round to do that!

It was originally developed by the Army at the old Springfield Armory, for use with the Springfield Model 1873, also known as the "Trapdoor Springfield." (

So it might have been used to hunt buffalo, but it was originally designed as a chambering for an early battle rifle:
A .30-'06 on the left, .45-70 in the middle, and a .50-90 Sharps on the right:

OKAY THEN! Took the Chrono to the range to get some numbers. Here's the rundown!
405gr JFP over 44gr Hodgdon 4198.... 1750fps..... 2753.49 ft-lbs
300gr Combined Technology over 55.5gr Hodgdon 4198.... 2300fps......4290.98 ft-lbs
So yea, I have a love affair (officially) with my guide gun, tho it's more masochist that should be deemed healthy
