I've noticed generic "No firearms" signage or symbols at several local parks and public areas, with two specific example being Oyster Creek Park in Sugarland and the George Mitchell Preserve in The Woodlands.

I take this to mean "No unauthorized posession and usage of weapons" and not applicable to legitimate concealed carry.

It don't mean a thing period. Gangbangers don't care; It's already against the law for unlicensed folks to carry; and it doesn't apply to the licensed. When I see generic "gunbuster" signs, I assume that means "We don't sell guns here".....

When I see these signs I assume it's either...
1. An insurance company requirement for liability insurance on the premises
2. A feel-good measure of some sort by the owner.
3. A real intent to prohibit all carry including licensed carry, but with ignorance of the 30.06 requirement.

My assumption is that they are prohibiting the open or concealed carry of rifles and shotguns. Obviously, the notice does not apply to those with a CHL and carrying a concealed handgun (state preemption, public land, not a 30.06 sign, etc).

The only caveat is to do the research to make certain that the park is not on land owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Your CHL is not valid on those federal lands, and there is no signage requirement necessary for "effective notice." I think you're good at Oyster Creek Park and the George Mitchell Nature Preserve, but don't take my word for it; check them for yourself.

COE parks being the exception, I take it to mean "wee needed more decoration here, and were bored with nature and shrubbery"
