Anyone know if the Eisbahn skating rink in Fredericksburg is off limits?
Apparently its now owned by a school, though I don't think it qualifies
as school facilities.

===========================================
section 46.03 PLACES WEAPONS PROHIBITED
...
(1) on the physical premises of a school or educational institution,
any grounds or building on which an activity sponsored by a school or
educational institution is being conducted, or a passenger transporta-
tion vehicle of a school or educational institution, whether the school or
educational institution is public or private, unless pursuant to written
regulations or written authorization of the institution;

I don't think the rink qualifies as "premises of a school", but I wonder if
"an activity sponsored by a school" applies in this case?

Well my sister is a deputy sheriff up there but she does not return my calls or e-mails. Otherwise I could find out. I will try to ask her. you could just call the police department and ask if it is posted.

You wouldn't need a sign, except as a courtesy, if it's a prohibited place by code. For example, we have a local swim center, owned/operated by the school district that is definitely "school premises", and it's also posted even though 30.06 is not required.

Is this correct?
1. The property on which the rink sits is OWNED by the town, it's public property?
2. The skating rink is operated FOR THE BENEFIT of the school, but not necessarily BY STUDENTS. Parents and other non-students work the rink?

This is not legal advice by any stretch... just my opinion...
If the property is public (not owned by the school) and the activity is not a "student" activity (not required for class, not a school-sponsored sporting event, etc.), it would need to be posted to be off limits.

Strictly my opinion, worth exactly what you paid for it. :biggrinjester:
