I bought a little thing called a Gun Vault. There are two types: one uses a combination of key presses and the other actually uses fingerprints. The Gun Vault can be bolted or screwed down to secure it. I keep pistols in mine and it works good. Has a key for backup if the battery goes dead. I bought mine in California when I was stationed there, so I'm sure I overpaid compared to Texas, but I saw one online for a bit over a hundred for the key press combo lock model and about two hundred for the biometric fingerprint one. It isn't the cheapest solution, but its a good one, secure with fast access. Good luck.

I've got two trigger locks similar to what is posted in the "Pay it Forward" post or I have a new, never opened cable gun lock. You are welcome to either or both, it will only cost you the time to come and get it. I'm also in Arlington. PM me if interested and I'll send you my address.....

Gunvault, or something of similar design is probably the best solution. If you're willing to budge on the "keyless" specification, most small safes, like those sold at big box stores and office supply stores will also work.

Steer clear of cheap lockboxes. Also, hate trigger and cable locks. Both are easily defeated. Trigger locks can be removed in seconds with a screwdriver or ice pick. Cable locks can be defeated with a simple pair of pliers in seconds. Also, both can't be used to secure a loaded weapon.

One cheap option for a double action revolver (and much better than trigger/cable locks): a good old padlock. Swing out the cylinder and lock the padlock on the topstrap. Won't prevent it from being touched or walking off. Will prevent the cylinder from being closed so it can't be fired.

Yes, bolt cutters can defeat it. Good quality masterlocks take good bolt cutters or a good saw to defeat.

Gun manufacturers provide trigger guards or the cable type locks with their guns. Police Departments provide the cable lock type "Child Locks" to limit access to guns by children. For the limited purpose stated, I believe either would serve its intended purpose. I do not believe these type locks would be provided if they were inherently dangerous and ineffective for their stated purpose. They won't prevent theft, they will just render your revolver unable to fire a round if your revolver should find it's way into the hands of a child. Both, as well as a padlock, will not keep the ammunition out of your grandchild's hands. Unload and lock your revolver out of reach of your grandchildren when they visit. For your limited purpose as stated in your post, I think this will do the trick. Preventing theft, storage, accessibility for home protection, etc. all have numerous available options quite different than just effectively keeping a loaded firearm out of the hands of children.....

My vote is for the GunVault. I was concerned about the amount of time it would take for me to un-secure my nightstand gun fumbling with keys for a trigger lock or a lock fed through the breach. Found a good deal on the 300 model (keyless 3 number combo lock, not electronic) on Amazon. Obviously not a secure as a full on gun safe, but it's functional. Liked it so much, I got a keyed one for when I need to disarm and leave my gun under the seat in the vehicle.
