anyone have any experience with this ammo or remarks ? been looking at this 100 grain plus p .380 , looks good on paper , they have velocities posted for short barrels . not cheap though , id like to cycle a few boxes before i carry it . but is it worth it ?

Have experience with BB but not in .380. If you want a hollowpoint round and want it to expand every time and penetrate at least 10in consistently in .380 get the Barnes bullet. It is the only one that will do it almost 100% of the time. Doesn't matter what brand, take your pick. BB, DT, corbon. The biggest concerns are getting a hollowpoint to penatrate in .380 and secondly open fully every time. In informal water jug tests I did 3 years ago the only one that did it was the Barnes. This is why I got rid of my .380. Here is the late Mr. Camps review.

IMO don’t buy it if it can’t penetrate reliably and if you want plus P ok but I would stick with a Barnes bullet or ball ammo.

Yes, I absolutely endorse it. I carry the same ammo - the 100 gr. hard cast flatpoint (the 27A/20) - in my P238. A standard round nose FMJ tends to "slip" through tissue without doing much immediate harm. The BB's flat tip tends more to smash its way through and cause much more damage. The BB 27A/20 will penetrate 32 inches of ballistic gelatin, and will blow a 1/2" hole clear through anybody, bones and all, including a car door. SIG OK's the use of +P ammo in the P238, but sparingly, and advises owners to carry the +P just for self defense, and practice with regular ammo (e.g. Speer Lawman or PMC Bronze) to prevent excessive wear. You can definitely hear and feel the difference when shooting it. It's loud and kicks your hand pretty hard compared to regular ammo; it's pretty powerful stuff. Kinda scary at first, so it would be helpful to fire a dozen or so rounds just to get the feel of it.

I personally carry my P238 cocked and locked, 7+1, in an OWB holster, with two extra 7-round mags on the other side, giving me 22 rounds of this ammo, so I feel pretty confident in handling most defense situations I might run into.

The rubber nose in the Hornady Critical Defense .380 keeps it from clogging with winter clothing and forces maximum expansion. One thing you need to be concerned with about these hyped-up bullets as Buffalo Bore is the ability to have rapid follow-up shots. If it cause much muzzle flip, your need for second shot could outweigh the added velocity gained.

There's a YouTube video somewhere of a Hornady CD .380 going through a jacket and a beef rib, then penetrating gelatin a little over an inch. Not too impressive.

The BB ammo definitely has more muzzle flip; you can really feel the power. But it's not uncontrollable in my P238; it's not like shooting a .44 magnum or anything. I would say with regular ammo I can shoot 4-5 rounds per second and stay on a paper plate at 6 feet. With the BB, that would drop down to 3 to 4 rounds per second. That's still pretty good firepower, but you really need to fire a few rounds of it so you'll know what to expect; it makes a huge difference. If you tried to use it in a self defense situation without ever having shot it before, you could get in trouble and spray your shots too much.

i likin your sig there , im carrying the same . i always eyeballed these 10 grains online , never see them local . now that i got interested again , i see they have a 80 grain barnes bullet . guess i'll just have to try both and see , a +p barnes sounds nasty too

I thought about it, but in a .380, I'm just a little concerned that even with BB's +P, a hollow point, by the time it hits a coat, shirt and bone, might not have enough oomph to really do the job. On the other hand, I KNOW with 100% certainty that the BB 27A/20 will blow through everything, within reason. Just point and shoot, kablooey. Incidentally, SIG recommends using at least 90 gr. in the P238 for reliable functioning.

I found it impossible to buy BB locally. I ordered it direct from BB's web site, and it was in my mailbox 4 days later.
