Hey all,

Just started getting into casting and realized that the lead bullet that I'm using for my 45 ACP will also work for the 45LC. This being said and the fact that Xmas is just around the corner, I have been trying to figure out what DA/SA revolvers come in 45LC and how well they would stand up to someone who is relatively inexperienced at reloading. Any suggestions?
Btw I will probably end up with another good lever action to go with the revolver

Ruger Blackhawk. Best .45LC you can get. Capable of withstanding huge pressures. The Colt SAA clones look nice, but can't withstand the pressures that the Ruger can. You'll find in your reloading book a section in .45LC that says "Ruger Only" There's a reason for that.

For DA/SA, the Redhawk is best. Currently shown only with 4", I much prefer my 5 1/2" over my 4". They will accept any loads that are safe by published data.

I also have two Taurus 450 snubbies, but I use nothing hotter than factory self defense ammo.

I also have a Winchester Trapper and a Rossi Ranch Hand in .45 Colt.

ETA: Plumb forgot about my Super Blackhawk Hunter in .45 and my pre-73 Blackhawk.

DA - Ruger Redhawk

Imo, a Redhawk in 45 Colt would be a great gun that could do a lot of things very well, anything from plinking to self defense to big game hunting.

You sound like the poster child for the nagging wife to say "do you need all those guns?" "Dear, do you need all those shoes? Your collection of 45LCs sounds impressive. I want to be your friend.

IIRC, (not sure of model) Ruger makes one that comes with interchangable cylinders - to able to shoot either. Especially if into hunting, the 45LC can be loaded to run right up there with 44 mag. I have the 7.5 Super Redhawk in .454 and use it with 45LC loads for anything short of elk.

Ruger does in fact make a Blackhawk with 2 cylinders. One for .45LC and one for .45ACP.

Oh and the .45LC can be loaded to be more powerful than .44 mag

And .45 Colt is actually .452 caliber, unlike the .429 Magnum.

I would mention that some heavy bullet loads that fit my Redhawk are too long for the Blackhawk cylinder.

Would the Beretta Stampede also fall in to the less than Ruger category? I like Rugers but something about the Blackhawk does not appeal to me. I think it is the front sight.

Then look at the Vaquero. Just be aware that current Vaqueros are not as stout. I would think still stronger than the Beretta, though.
