Guys,

I walked into a Pawn Shop in Lockart that was 30.06 posted on my way back from Luling. I assumed that they wouldn't sell guns based on that flawed mindset, but instead there was a generous selection of handguns and a big sign taped to the glass advertising CHL classes. Why would anyone buy a gun from such a facility, and why would CHL classes advertise there??

that was my first question too, but to answer the OP, i tend to try to avoid 30.06 posted businesses but would NEVER buy a firearm (or anything gun/hunting related) from a business that was posted. it's like they're saying "we want to sell you the gun (read: $$$$), but we don't respect your right to carry it". the only exception i've made to that general rule was at a gun show, but i didn't even feel comfortable going in there without my M&P strapped to my hip. it would be way too easy for someone to go in there with a loaded gun, and go virtually unnoticed until they open up and start mowing people down.

Unfortunately, that is the situation that all of us find ourselves in relative to gun shows in the DFW area. They are all posted. Most are on government owned property where it should be invalid to put up a 30.06 sign in the first place. Nevertheless, those are the cards that we've been dealt. The choice is to boycott the gun shows or leave it in the car.

Or - just unload and allow the weapons check station to zip tie it and re-holster. I have never had a problem.

On the original thread - agree, I just would not go in a place that sells guns if posted. Question - do these pawn shops actually fear licensed folks - or are they just afraid of a crossfire shootout? Anybody wanna ask em?

Me: "Do you really intend to prohibit licensed carry in your store or maybe a "No unlicensed carry" sign would be a better choice"

Their answer would determine whether I'd do business with them.

Me: "Nice sign out in front. Can you please tell me of any other gun stores in the area? Thank you. Have a nice day."

That might lead to an opportunity to explain why you're not going to buy from them. It also gives you the opportunity to make them an offer: "Tell you what.....if you take that sign down right now and burn it, I'll stay and buy a gun from you instead of from the guy down the street. Ball's in your court....."

If I understand the law correctly, then technically it would be very difficult for a CHL holder to legally buy a gun from such a place.

Once you buy the gun, If you carry it in a case (concealed) while in their store, then you would be in direct violation of 30.06, I think. The only way this would technically work is if they walked with you out the front door so they could give it to you outside the building, and that sounds like a pretty big hassle.

I'm tempted to walk in, lay 20 crisp new $100 bills on the counter and tell them that I am looking to buy a couple high end guns. Then lament that since I am a licensed CHL holder I will need to take my money somewhere else as I couldn't legally carry the guns to the front door of their store.

Have walked into Houston pawn shop on S Durham for past few weeks, looking for a .22 plinker. On about the third visit, I noticed an invalid 30.06 sign -- English only -- posted on the wall, immediately to the right of the firearms display.

Smiled and continued to see a non-effective notice.

It would not be difficult at all. An offense under 30.06 requires that you BOTH received notice (the sign) AND did not have effective consent. By handing you the gun, the shop is giving you effective consent to have it.

This store is a participant in a lesser known sub-program of Fast & Furious. The minute you buy a gun and take it in your hand someone from the ATF jumps out of a closet and arrests you for illegal carry.

I suppose, but how many of us are going to bother to disarm just to see what this guy has to offer. I think for most us a 30.06 doesn't mean "Disarm arm before you you enter." but rather "Keep out, stay away" If I don't have to go in, I not only won't go in, but I'm not going to waste time checking to see if the sign is gone later. There are more places than I have time for that want our business and don't post 30.06.

Murl's Gunshop in Granbury is posted 30.06. Had a customer arrested for bringing in a gun to be worked on as he is a gun smith...
