I saw that on Facebook a few minutes ago, posted by the NRA.

I'm doing my part. So far, I've got my wife shooting, who had never shot handguns before, and she now has her CHL. We have taken her sister, who has her CHL, but doesn't get a chance to shoot often, out to the range. I have taken the two oldest grandsons to the pistol range and gotten them started shooting and hunting. My step daughter, the oldest grandson's mother, and a nephew, neither of which had shot handguns before, to the range yesterday. They both left with big smiles (the nephew kept his targets to take home!).

I have also taken several friends from Church to the range for their first firearms experience.

It is a lot of fun to change perceptions of guns as scary things the bad guys have to a tool for self-defense and a source of enjoyment and empowerment (and competition with the grandsons!).

There is nothing that I enjoy more than spending time with my wife, family and friends at the range.

Awesome! It's a miracle!

IT"S A TRICK!

The motivation for the story is easy to understand: the empowerment of women (or some other group not consisting of white males) in NYC. The reporter begins with the presumption that firearms are masculine, and has to be disabused of that notion by the women she interviews. The words "self-defense" are spoken only once in the entire piece, steering the viewer away from that idea—deliberately, in my opinion. The emphasis is on sport, and there is not even the wispiest of challenges to whether or not a rigorous licensing procedure being required to simply own a handgun is desireable. This story refuses to engage at all in the issue of a Constitutional right.

What I found most significant is that when asked to complete a sentence about how a gun makes her feel, the two women who are devoted to other activities in their life said "powerful" and "excited," while the person whose profession was firearms instructor answered "relaxed." In other words, the first two women are energized and titillated by the idea of violating accepted conventions about women with guns (particularly in NYC, where guns are the devil), while the third woman accepts it as completely normal and is quietly self-assured. She was the one of the three who impressed me the most.

Yeah, I noticed that, too.

I wonder if the reporter really did hit a bullseye with her first shot? My roommate pulled that stunt either with my P226 or my friend's Glock 17 (I don't recall which and I wasn't there to see it), but then he started anticipating the recoil.

Anything gun-positive by the MSM is a win, however small or off target we may feel about it.
This was a positive story. Maybe only a small chip off a huge glacier, but it's from an unexpected location.
Possibly an early sign of a trend, maybe not... but a win nevertheless... Bravo.!

Charles thanks for posting this. I will spread it around.

TAM I gree, however I will have to also say that however small a victory it is, or however small a chip we knock off it is good to see. I have been promoting All Female CHL Classes, and you would be suprised how many women like the idea.

All in all it's a win . Women can be more influential than men sometimes, so let's get them on our side.
