Well, I have been to the range with this piece twice. The first trip was just a quick funtion check, and I didn't have time to wring it out, however I did try various ammo brands and bullet designs as well as other mags. It ate everything I gave it, even my real light SWC handloads that were brewed for the revolver. It shot well first visit, however I did have it lock open twice before the mag was empty. I didn't make note of which mag or mags did it. I actually don't see how the mag could do it however there is a slight difference in the angle of the lips from the original to my Wilson Combats and Mec-Gear. I'll check closer today with snap caps and see if I can find the issue.

Second trip was yesterday, and she shot great. I tried to duplicate the premature lock and I was only able to do it once by pressing upward like heck on the slide stop while shooting. It wasn't easy, so I doubt I did it by accident. Once again she ate all I fed her, with all different mags. Checking for accuracy this time I will have to say it's dead on.

I think I figured out why the previous owner might have traded it in. I have a bad habit of what I call "shooting loose" when I am going fast. Meaning I tend to loosen up my left hand . I did some draw from concealed drills with multiple targets. I figured out that if you get loose with this little booger it will hit you right in the middle of your forehead with empties. I didn't have a cap on (which is unusual) and I got clanged real well a couple times. I mean ...it leaves a mark! LOL I bet whoever owned it before couldn't keep from getting hit. If I didn't know how to stop it I wouldn't like it either. It hurts! LOL Hit me in the glasses a couple times too.

Lesson learned...don't loosen up. I love it, it will make a great training tool to keep me from getting loose when I shoot Steel Challenge.

All in all, great gun. ANybody who says 3" .45s aren't reliable haven't shot the right gun yet.

Thanks for the report ... totally agree ... my all-black UCII is close to being the most accurate semi I own despite the 3-inch barrel ... mine has been flawless since new, it's my cool weather carry choice; I pocket carry most of the year given the balmy temps in the Hill Country and it's a bit big for that ... love this gun, one of my all-time favorites ...

I completely understand about the temps and pocket carry. I am a fishing guide in addition to being a CHL Instructor, so I am guilty of pocket carrying a bunch when I am headed to the boat. I am trying to break the habit, although sometimes it is just easier when in shorts and fishing shirt.

My intent is to quit the LCP and since this Ultra is the about the same size as the PT111 I have been carrying it will be the new EDC and I will just have to find the holster combo that works. I need it to be easy to conceal, but also easy to take the whole rig off when I get to the boat, and easy to put back on when leaving the dock. It carries well in the Galco imitation I have of the SuperTuck I use for the PT111. That rig is easy to take off, but not easy to put back on at the end of the day. I may have to find a paddle holster that will serve on those days.

As far as accuracy, I agree, it's gonna be hard to beat. I haven't shot it much past 10 yards yet, but at that range it will make about a 2" hole with 7 rounds if I try.

I'm also hoping it will hold up well on the water with some proper maintainance. Speaking of which, I need to go clean it.

I have an Ultra on the way. What OWB holsters do you like? This will be my new daily. Thanks for the report also.

Maybe Bikerbill will chime in. I don't have an OWB for this pistol yet. I just have an IWB from Galco that is similar to a CrossBreed Supertuck. I like it but not as well as my Crossbreed horsehide.

I haven't really looked for a OWB yet, maybe someone will make some suggestions. I do have a OWB for my PT111 that is good, it's a Don Hume JIT slide. It's inexpensive, and does a fair job. I'm thinking I want something that rides a tad higher with some cant for the Ultra. Edit. I just went and looked in the safe, I already have one of the DHume H721 O. T. for a full sized 1911. Feels pretty good with the Ultra in it, just too long of course.

I have an Ultra CDP II and my favorite OWB holster for it is a Tucker First Strike. It comes with both a belt mount and a paddle mount. I've never used the belt mount on mine. This is a "speed" holster, in that it has a partially open front for a quicker draw. Don't let that discourage you though because the two adjustment screws will allow you to dial in exactly the amount of retention you desire.

This is a kydex holster, but mine has the leather lining ($15 extra) so the holster has not marked my pistol at all. I carried in this holster all summer with a Wilderness Tactical Instructor belt and almost forgot it was there.

Does the First Strike have any material between the weapon and your skin at the hammer?

Seabear, this is a little more expensive than the Hume holster but fits the bill for what you want if you wear a belt. I have one and really like it, it is the Quick Snap BTP.

Both holsters wear very comfortably because they are designed unlike other OWB holsters. They do not poke into your side at all, but they still manage to tuck the gun in nice and tight against your body. They aren't cheap, but they are very well made and I highly recommend them.

In the diagram below, the holster on the left is the model pictured above, while the one on the right is a standard pancake holster. This illustrates why the Galco Concealable Belt Holster is so comfortable.

TAM, that one looks good, but I don't see any leather behind the hammer and beavertail. I mostly wear my shirts untucked with no undershirt so I am always looking for choices with some protection for the gun AND my skin. LOL Heck when I had the CDPII in the D Hume holster I mentioned above, the tip of the checkered grips would drive nuts. That's why I like the CrossBreed, it protects both, however it in IWB. I guess none of the manufacturers have figured out that not all people that carry OWB tuck in their shirts.

Yeah, well I almost always wear a tucked in t-shirt underneath an untucked overshirt, so I'm not bothered by the gun. But I understand what you're saying. I tried to do things your way and couldn't stand it either. In fact, I couldn't stand it even when I used my MTAC holster, and that one does have some leather sticking up to keep the hammer and grip off of your skin. For me, an undershirt is the way to go; and if it is too hot to wear an undershirt, then I pocket carry either a Kahr PM9 or a M&P340 snubbie.

I've thought about trying the T-shirt way, but it's almost ALWAYS too hot down here. LOL I guess I could try it again. I have a bud that wears a T-shirt and suspenders covered by his outer shirt. Works for him and I can understand his points, no chaffing, and he can leave his belt looser since the suspenders keep his pants up. Sometimes he even leaves the outer shirt unbuttoned. Just too much for me.

I think one keep is the Horse Hide like my CrossBreed has, it is much more comfortable than the same design in leather from Galco. It's almost like the unfinished Horsehide breaths, which I am sure is true since the Galco has two layers of finished leather sewn together . I know a guy that has a boot shop and I know he has some horsehide, I may just see if he wants to take on this project. hmmmmmm........or order one of those ugly kholsters and customize it to do what I want it to do.
