I bought a new toy!

Found a Kahr K9 at Cheaper Than Dirt for $639, brand new, and couldn't pass it up. I considered getting one over a year ago but the $800-900 I was seeing on the price tag was a little too much IMO. I have been recently looking for a gun smaller than my 1911 and revolver for work carry, and I wasn't willing to go smaller than a 9mm. The Kahr is one of the few DAO semi-autos that I can reach the trigger on. I have short fingers. :grumble

Before I bought it I swung by nearby ranges to see if anyone had one I could rent just to make sure I liked it, and Bullet Trap was the only one. Paying that $18.99 range fee just about killed me. I shoot for $5 near home...geez!! I spent $50 to figure out I liked it and while I don't regret it, I think nineteen bucks for a range fee is highway robbery.

I took the one I bought to the range last night and it performed perfectly. Sights were right on, it ate everything I put through it, and didn't malfunction during its 200-round shoot. It's the only semi-auto I've bought that worked flawlessly out of the box. I want to put at least another 500 rounds down it before I trust it to carry, but I am excited about finally being able to carry at work.

I have very few gunny friends I can share my excitement with, so I thought I'd pop in and tell everyone here. :woohoo

Random, you're going to find your Kahr ownership experience to be quite satisfactory. Like you, I am a 1911 person at heart, but my Kahr PM9 sees more daily carry than either of my 1911s, my M&P45, and my .357 snubbie combined. It's just a great little pistol. (I know, I know......"great little" is kinda like "jumbo shrimp," but it really is the best describer.) My wife loves her CW9 (the lower priced polymer framed version of your K9) and carries it daily, and once I get through the break-in period for my CW45, it will probably be my primary carry gun. Heck, it even fits in my front pocket although it really isn't designed for that.

The only steel framed Kahr I've fired was a steel framed MK9 someone let me try at the range, and I was so impressed with it that I was motivated to buy one, but I wanted the polymer framed version because I wanted to pocket carry it. I found a used PM9 with black slide and night sights at a pawnshop for half the price of a new one, and it was in very good condition so I snapped it up. If you're ownership experience turns out like I think it will, you'll want to eventually want acquire a smaller version of your gun for deeper concealment, and I would highly recommend the polymer framed PM9 or CM9 for pocket carry, or the CW9 (which is also pocketable) if you want a slightly larger grip size.

I've also noticed recently that Kahr MSRP pricing seems to have come down a bit. For instance, when they first released the CM9 not too long ago, the MSRP as stated on their website was $565.00. Currently it is stated as $517.00, an 8.5% price reduction. Similarly, the CW9 is down from $525.00 to $485.00.

It looks like photos are going to be a bit delayed. Unexpected turmoil that will hopefully clear up soon...yuck.

I did want to thank you all for your enthusiasm. I was talking to some guys at local pawn shops and at the range, and most of them looked down their noses at my Kahr. They seemed to think it wasn't a good gun, or that I could have picked a more "suitable" carry weapon, whatever that means. They also seemed to think that it was a stupid decision to replace my 1911 carry with the Kahr carry, even after I explained that I can carry my Kahr at work but I can't carry my 1911. Oh, those silly guys who think they know what I should carry.

Well, I like it and it does what I want it to, so THAT'S what matters. I'm just glad to finally hear some people responding positively to my purchase. I know I can always count on you guys!

TAM - You don't seem to know how women's pockets work. The only way I could get pockets big enough to carry the smallest Kahr would be to get them three sizes too big! In any case, I do think having a deep concealment BUG would be nice but it would need to be one of those mouse guns I despise. I was so pleased about getting my Kahr for $639, because MSRP would have been $885. Guess only the polymer frames decreased in price? I don't know if I would have paid MSRP for this gun, as much as I like it, but the price was right this time!

:cheers2: Congradulations, At the end of the day, its really is all babout what works for you! Too many gun people are incapable of understanding that what works well for them, might not be the best for everyone.

Yes, unfortunately, this is not a problem I have. My britches are much bigger than they used to be when I was a wee lad.....much to my chagrine. Pocketing a pistol is no problem for me anymore. :???:

I don't think all polymer pistols that came down in price, because the MSRP for my PM9 appears to be the same. But, all of the "CM" and "CW" pistols appear to have been reduced in price.

Dang, I'm having a real problem with the takedown on my K9. I can't get the slide stop out. My husband can't either. Any suggestions?

Pull the trigger while removing the slide. This may help:
