RANGE REPORT: DPMS LR308 (AR10)

Just got a new DPMS LR308 and took it out for it's maiden voyage (pics will be coming later tonight). All I wanted to check on her tonight was that she would eat ammo OK and was accurate. Check and check.

I was quite suprised at how mild the recoil was in this weapon. It only seemed to have slightly more recoil than the typical AR15. Getting back on target was a breeze while rapid firing 4-5 rounds at a time. The trigger reset is amazing on this gun. You could actually hear the click with hearing protection on and you couldn't help but feel it. After the first shot, I thought something had broken when I felt/heard it.

The only negative that came out of the trip was a small burr on the charging handle (sorry about the cut gwashorn). Only put fourty rounds through it tonight, gonna save the real shooting for after I mount some after market gizmos on it.

ETA, I tried all I could to find the burr that got gwashorn, but I can't find a burr anywhere.

Overall, I would have to give DPMS an A- for their AR10. :fire

canvasbck, thanks for letting me shoot the new toy. Yes the trigger reset was fantastic. You can't make a mistake not knowing it reset. Solid, clean break on the trigger. You knew it would fire when you wanted it to fire and you knew when it was ready again. Recoil was fine I thought. As for the burr, not sure if it was from the charge handle. I thought I might have been but when we were removing the one round that hung the brass I may have grabbed something else where. Actually I think I let the charge handle just slide off my finger and just the corner may have got me. Either way, it was great to shoot. like the balance too holding it. I have been looking at these as well.
