Time Warner Cable :(

Its sort of a necessary evil i guess, we all want to watch TV but no one wants to pay the ridiculous prices for it (and rightfully so).

Yesterday i walked into the local Time Warner Cable office here in San Marcos, TX and noticed a non-legal sign at the entrance prohibiting legal carry :(

I was sad that i couldnt tell them that they lost my business since theyre pretty much the cable monopoly round here.

It was a sign referencing 1411 or 441 i forgot. Anyway, price was still more than what i was willing to pay for cable and road runner internet so i opted for internet only at 29.99 for 6mos.

Today, im seriously considering writing an email telling them WHY they lost my business.

Anyone already know about this with TW Cable?
Has anyone dealt with corporate about their decision to restrict legal carry?

The other cable company in town, Grande, doesnt install in my area :(

So sad.

FWIW, I have never set foot on Time-Warner premises. I just called them and told them I wanted service.

The sign has no authority if it is not a legal 30.06 sign....Don't call and enjoy your Nick at Nite!

Go to one of the mini dish satellite companies for your "cable." In my town, it is actually cheaper to go with Dish Network with the extra fees for a second receiver and local chanels (total of about 60 chanels) than for extended cable (total of about 55 chanels). Then, call up AT&T and ask about DSL service for $14.99/mo. for a year. I know there is a speed difference (but I don't know how much), but this would allow you to completely take your business away from Time Warner, who is obviously trying (unsuccessfully, at least for now) to pull the teeth from the sheepdogs.

Thanks guys, and great idea about the Dish thing.

I think i just need to inquire about which way i need to point the thing before ordering.

Don't hold me to this cause it's been a good 2 years or so, but when I had Dish Network in San Marcos it needed to face South/Southwest. And for the record, I was every bit as happy with it as I was with standard cable. My only complaint was that since it was in an apartment I couldn't run the cable through the walls, but the service itself was great, and they had a recorder box at the time that could be used on two televisions.

Here's another happy satellite customer who would never willingly go back to cable.

I prefer DirecTV. We've got the DirecTiVo, which is their two-tuner DVR, plus a standard box in the bedroom.

The satellites are roughly straight above Dallas. Both Dish and DirecTV have pointing coordinates available on their websites, based on your ZIP code.

I gave up rural Direct TV for Time Warner Cable. TWC just completed an all fiber trunk into my little town, and then offered a special deal, basic cable and roadrunner internet for less than what I was paying for direct tv. I jumped at the chance. Roadrunner has the fastest internet speed out there, that I know of.

Yea, I've seen the gunbusters sign when I go to their main office. I just ignore the improper sign and go about my business.

What's television?

:biggrinjester:

We've got cable for the 'net, but our TVs rarely if ever get turned on. Just no interest inwhat's on the "idiot's lantern." Yeah, I know History Channel has some interesting stuff, but one channel ain't worth beau coup bucks for the whole service.

Now, if they offered the means wherewith only one or two channels could be received, at a far lower cost (History, FoxNews), I might be interested. Until then, though, my television will collect dust in the garage.

Sports! You can live without sports?

NFL on HDTV. Once you try it, you'll never go back...

But there's darned sparse viewing of it on cable TV or satellite, eh?

Still, isn't there a Man Law that says you need to be able to watch at least one major, syndicated sport in your home? ;-) Oh, and figure skating doesn't count...

I have had cable, DirecTV and now Verizon FiOS TV. Satellite killed cable and FiOS kills satellite. Great picture and sound and no outages. FiOS Internet is also faster than anything else out there. I have 15meg down/ 2 meg up service. It rules.

Sad but true.

I just don't watch TV, or anything I can't talk back to.
