A range buddy (that's him in the video) wanted to know if we wanted to shoot his Colt Python in .357 magnum yesterday and I said sure! The Python was his duty weapon when he was LEO in El Paso a few years ago. It is nickle plated and a beautiful handgun. I was a little surprised at its weight but that certainly helped to dampen the recoil. The shiny sights were very difficult to line up but I easily got on target at 7 yards.

Dear wife did not have the hand strength to pull the trigger all the way through, so she had to manually cock the hammer. She did really well with it and easily managed the recoil. The recoil wasn't much worse than our 40 caliber Ruger and she has put several hundred rounds through it.

It's fun to compare notes with others at the range and that aspect is almost as much fun as shooting.

She did well. I was a little afraid she would get a hammer bite when I saw her left thumb across the top of the right hand but it seems to have worked okay for her. Those Pythons are great guns

I had a Sargent when I was a LEO that carried a 6" Python. They are VERY manageable on recoil due to the longer barrel and great balance of the barrel and frame weight.

She looked comfortable with that gun. Now your problem is she may want one of her own!

She's extremely comfortable with handguns and we both enjoy our range time together. Jane has a problem of hand placement and I have to keep working with her to use a good grip consistently - her left thumb and forefinger sometimes forget where they belong.

The Python felt great in the hand and was a lot of fun to shoot - I wouldn't mind owning one (Dear Santa...)

That's awesome, my girlfriend shot my dads 686 357 magnum but last weekend we had a chance to shoot a judge and she didn't want anything to do with it, lol.

Good for her! My wife has a studied and deliberate lack of interest in shooting my Model 29. Strange....because she has no problem at all shooting 9mm out of her diminutive Kahr, and that has a reasonable amount of snap to it. I'll bet I could get her to shoot a 6" Colt Python..........if I could just find one for keeps.

One thing I've learned after being married all of my life is you have to let the ladies proceed at their own pace with a loving nudge and suggestion here and there (timing is everything.) I seriously doubt that Jane would have wanted to shoot the Python a few months ago, and I probably wouldn't have even suggested she try - one bad experience can take years to overcome. My mom likes to tell a story about my dad letting her buy a dress.

Apparently, my dad was somewhat tight with the pennies and never liked for her to spend money. He wasn't mean, just a nagger. "Where did that money go?" "Why did you get that dress? The ones you have look fine!" "Why didn't you go to that other store?" "No, we can't have dessert."... Stuff like that.

One day, he came home and announces, "OK Sweetheart, you can go buy any dress you want!". Apparently, (mom says) he went out and spent "$290.00 WHOLE DOLLARS on some silly pistol so he felt guilty so I went out and bought me a dress."

Well, I now have the silly pistol but I'm pretty sure my sister doesn't want that 50 year old dress.

The Colt Python is still the finest piece of crafted machinery of any kind. It's like a swiss watch that goes BANG!!
