I had a lady in the class I taught yesterday that had the prettiest pink gripped and pink lettering STI Elecktra in 9mm. Caught my attention first because it really was a good looking weapon. Then it got my attention because it could run very well till the last two rounds in the mag. Constant fail to feed. Seemed dry so I lubed it, no help. Got her to tighten grip, helped some but not enough. I finally went and got her a mag from my bag, a Kimber mag I use in my PT1911 9mm. It was longer of course but it functioned fine. After checking her mag which was a MecG, you could feel a rough spot as you were puching the follower down. It was a real piece of junk. Too bad nobody at STI checked that before they sent it out. I guess maybe they fired a one round check or maybe they never tested it with that particular mag.

I felt bad for her, well, mainly for her husband. He bought her that to use in the class and all he could afford afterwards for himself was a HIghPoint . It was a shame the Elecktra couldn't function as well as a "right out of the box" HighPoint. He shot a 250 with it too. Go figure.

Actually I am not sure what brand that mag was. I do know I bought two just like it for my PT1911 and only one of them works. I'll see if I can dig up the pic, but I am suprised STI is using that junk.

Didn't happen. STi's are invincible. The best 1911s ever made. WAY better than a Kimber/Springfield/Etc.

NO! A true 1911 is a steel 5" .45 like St. JMB first designed. All the rest are imitations and wannabes.

That's a Metalform mag. Metalform used to supply 1911 mags to the U.S. military they are usually good. I have a few .45 mags made by them no problems.

LOL I hear ya. Some comments lately have been a little uh....biased ? misinformed ? Nawww couldn't be.

Yep it's a platform that imitates what was designed and wants to be the real thing.

For $1300, it really should have a decent magazine.
1911 forum had a few refs to bad mags in the Elektra 9mm:

We took it out with a Kimber mag & it ran flawless! I called STI & they said to send the mag back to them & they'll replace it. He also told me to try Tripp mags in it.

I'd get a short Kimber mag for it (If they can find one) and send the POS back to STI.
I'm not familiar with Tripp mags.

Tripp mags are what you finally buy when Wilson mags won't make your gun run. Tripp rocks!

So, am I to understand that STI is the Cadillac of 1911's?

I don't think I have tried any Tripp mags. My Wilsons all work fine, however I will have to say Metal Form fails on the 9mm mags. I have two and seing the third one yesterday in the Elecktra, and only one out of three work kind of makes me think their success rate is low. I also have some Mecs that work really well.

Next time I need some mags I'll check out the Tripp.

I CAN believe it if they are sending them out with the Metal Forms. They even feel like junk , heck the floor plates are spot welded on.

Ironic, considering what (who) the "T" in "STI" originally represented.
