The TSA stops a Senator from returning to Washington!

Seems like there ought-to-be-a-law against that or even something in the Constitution.
If there wasn't, what would keep a president from stopping a Senator or Congressman from returning to Washington to vote against the presidents bill-of-the-day.

I guess the TSA really want's a constitutional challenge.

Did you read the article? It quotes the Constitution, Art. I Sec, 6.

However, this may be a fine line since he was uncooperative so they couldn't make a determination right there in the spot. Whether they were following appropriate or common/reasonable protocol and process as applied to anyone, or not, is another issue.

The TSA still sucks, even if they were in the right here, doing their job, which is wrong.

Why doesn't Rand Paul have a security detail with him, like Sheila Jackson Lee does when she travels with us peons on commercial airlines.
Her security is always carrying, so why scrutinize other congressional people?
Oh, by the way, I am not condoning SJL carrying, if she can, then WE CAN as WE are the PEOPLE!

I was being sarcastic and didn't have my sarcasm flag visible.

I was surprised when I read the first articles about this detainment that the writers didn't immediately mention the constitutional restrictions and the historical reasons those restrictions were added to the constitution.

A TSA spokesman disputed that Paul was ever “detained.”

What do they call it when they prevent someone from catching their flight? Seems like simple English, to me. Oh, yeah.. TSA = guvm'nt double-speak

As far as the Constitution goes though, wouldn't failure to kow-tow to the TSA be considered a felony? (tongue firmly planted in cheek)

Seems like the government likes to put citizens it doesn't like onto lists...how about government agencies I don't like onto a list?

Paul states that the machine alarmed when he went through. TSA procedure is to resolve such alarms by pat down, and then later he states that he thinks he was selected for a random pat down. Sounds like double talk to me, whether or not TSA was in the right.

And if Lee were prevented from having her security detail, it would be racial profiling.

The news article I read said that he triggered the alarm, was asked for a patdown as a result per SOP, refused the patdown, was escorted to private area. Unspecified discussion took place, he was walked through the scanner again with no alarm, and went on his way.

Paranoia about telepathic mind control of TSA agents by POTUS or others in order to manipulate whether or not congresspersons can fly to DC seems a bit premature at this point.

Moira Bagley, the senator's spokeswoman, told Fox News that Paul (R-Ky.) called her after he went through a "full body screener," described to her as a body-imaging machine, and was stopped for an anomaly around his leg. The senator lifted his pants leg to show nothing was there and offered to go back through the machine, but the TSA official said no, only a full-body pat down would suffice.

If the " anomaly" was on his leg, why would they require a "full body" pat down? Why not just the leg, which he showed them? Or another scan, which he offered to take?

Just got back from flying. TSA was just fine as long as I allowed myself to be radiated. Few lines this time of year.
Remembered to get the kleenex out of my pocket both times.

Too bad Rand didn't get his iPhone out and start recording it. Now its just a he said TSA said about whether he was detained or not. I wish he had asked things like "am I free to go" etc.

Constitution probably does not give him the right to enter a secure area with out TSA's approval, but they cannot detain him.

Went down hill when the demanded that they have "badges".

I almost every time (both ways) go thru the scanner.

there are no "beeps" or other noises that I have ever seen.

The TSA on the other side of the scanner directs you to stand with your hands over your head, no moving.
What happens, is 1 of 2 things:
..........you then walk out and another TSA stops you from proceeding
1) He either has a microphone and earpiece and someone tells him "he/she is OK to go"
2) they see a computer screen on the backside of the scanner which shows the TSA that the person walking out is good or not good (I haven't ever looked back to see exactly what it is, but I will tomorrow on the way to Vegas.

I have many times been asked "you wearing a watch?" I casually lift my sleeve, show nothing and they say "ok, have a good day"
So apparently someone saw something that should have been a 'red flag' and as many times as I have been asked to show, not one has EVER touched my arm, or my body in any way.

So if their rules are pass/fail and fail means full body pat down, well, I have to say that the TSA in Houston (IAH and Hobby) do not subscribe to that rule

This is correct. Not all airports have the x-ray/nudie-scanners. For instance, Cedar Rapids (CID?), only had metal detectors last time through. It "randomly beeped"...I know it was random as I was wearing my usual flying attire...which *never* beeps...the TSA person said it was "random"...I said "well let's go through again, it won't beep"....nope....got pat down...that didn't go very well.
