Got the plastic yesterday. 63 days by my count.

Now about the Wally Walk thing. Hate the place and won't go unless the wife makes me. That means going in to Lubbock. So how 'bout if I go in to the small town we're near and hang out in the feed and seed store for a little while? They sell ammo.

But doing a walk through a Tractor Supply or feed store isn't the same as a Wally Walk, There are no sheep. No infestation of antis and it is way to comfortable of a place to go for a right of passage for a new CHL. The Wally Walk is fraught with real world hazzards, It is like the place is intentionally designed as an initiation for new CHL holders. They also have reasonably priced target ammo.

Its pretty easy and trendy to badmouth Wally World but where else can you get an emergency car battery at 2 in the morning? I've seen dozens of people working there that would be completely unemployable anywhere else.

Huummmmm You sure have a point about more antis at WW than the others. Guess there is a purpose for the stores being here.

Good point. Wife tells me all the time I need to get out of my comfort zone. Still ain't goin' though.

The feed store sounds like a good place to me! I go to one every week. Buying 1,600 lbs of cow feed, 700 lbs of calf feed, and 200 lbs of horse feed and then helping the guys load it in the back of my truck is a good test of concealment, especially on those windy days when it’s hard to keep your cover garment from flapping behind you like a flag.

I’ve been going to this particular feed store for > 6 years and they have no idea that I carry.

I tend to not like Wally World either. To many people moving around at the same time, too few manners for some of them, and at least for the store in my area, too few clerks at the checkouts so the lines are always long. The net result is I only go about once every 3-4 months to stock up, and try to pick off hours.

Congratulations on getting your license! If I may ask, what do you plan on carrying and how will you carry it? What about methods of concealment?

I've been a Smith & Wesson fan for 35+ years until I bought a couple of Ruger single actions. Love 'em, can't tear one up. So impressed I bought a Ruger P345 for carry. I've had it almost a year and like it very much. 2000+ rounds and going strong. My holster is a Don Hume inside the waistband with metal clip. Easy on easy off. Stays put very well.

This time of year concealment is easy with jackets and outer wear etc.
May have to rethink that though when the weather warms.

Sounds like a nice rig. One thing that had always kept me away from the Ruger P series was the size, they were just too bulky for concealed carry in a hot climate. I don’t tend to wear thick jackets in July in Texas . But the P345 certainly changed that, it’s a relatively compact 45ACP offering, and with the Ruger name it’s probably solid as a rock.

I must admit I am more then a little biased when it comes to the old venerable 45ACP round, so that’s a major point in favor for the P345 in my mind. After all, 8+1 of 45acp is nothing to laugh at!

One issue I do have with the 345 is the magazine disconnect safety. Now let me state it’s not a major issue, but I rather not have the ability to fire disabled because no mag is inserted. You never know when that one round in the chamber may come in handy for a concealed carry weapon!

It will be interesting to hear how you decide to carry in the warm months. As you stated, this time of year is not really a problem, but warm weather is just around the corner!

As a new member myself, I can tell you this is a good place to hang out. Although the tractor or feed store may be a good place to start out, you just can't beat a walk among the sheep.
If WW is a problem, try Target. You will still have to reach upper level shelves or bend to the bottom ones. You're still surrounded by antis.

I would also recommend a mall, movie theater, or home improvement store, although these are simple compared to the rigors of Wal-Mart/Target.
