I'm a big 9mm fan but have always loved 1911's. Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Rock Island 1911 9MM? I know RIA has a reputation for being a value 1911 in 45 but I never hear anything about the 9mm. Thinking about picking one up but thought I'd check with the troops first.

I have a Rock Island Tactical 1911 .45acp that has never missed a lick. I never found one in 9mm or I would have tried it. I might have saved some money. Instead I bought a Taurus PT1911 9mm, and added a Novak Adjustable rear sight. I love it now and it does superb.

I would imagine the Rock Island would do well. The main thing to keep in mind in getting decent magazines if you need spares (we all need spares ). Metal form mags suck, I have some kimber mags that work well, and if you can find the Mec-Gar mags Taurus uses they are the best built and VERY reliable.

i have s&w 1911 in 9mm. it shoots really nice.

I have a Kimber Gold Match II stainless 1911 in 9mm.. My go to gun!

My wife has a Springfield 1911-A1 stainless in 9mm and she just loves it.. A bit heavy for her to carry... She carries a 642

I just recently got a STI Spartan III and haven't shot it yet.

I have a Kimber Pro Carry II in 9mm and it's a great shooter. It's a blast shooting the plate rack with it.

I saw the Rock Island 9mm last weekend at the Pasadena show for 399.00, would have picked it up if i wasn't saving for another project.

Check AJC Sports Shop in Katy. I think they stock them.

There is another 1911 9mm in my future plans. Probably going to see how the new STI Spartan goes before making a final decision.

To be honest I haven't told my GF that I got it yet. Until I do, then I will then have permission to go out and shoot it. I have dinner lined up for tomorrow night so we'll see how it goes..

I guess telling her is the easy part, getting permission ahead of time sounds like a chore though. I'm glad my wife likes it when I buy guns. She never really shoots much other than a Glock, but she still likes checking out my purchases. I always make it a point to try and get her something (gift of some sort) before I buy a gun just to put a smile on her face and spoil her a little if I am going to spoil myself.

Don't be scared. How mad could she get? Did you skip the bills to buy it?

In all honesty I don't always talk about what I buy with my wife. She has her money, I have mine, we have ours. She spent $271 on her hair last week, made me feel a whole lot better about the $800 I spent on my last pistol. LOL

I guess it's all a matter of perspective.

Sometimes, it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission

Wives, Girlfriends, and what we tell them could be a totally different thread. I always fall into the category of its easier to ask for forgiveness than permission, not that I need either. I've never had to even explain why but for some reason that's the way it happens. I have my 7 hand guns and she feels comfortable knowing the bills are all paid and she can buy furniture when she wants it. In the long run I think she needs a higher budget than I do.

Same here, only way to go. She buys new cars, shoes and expensive clothes, I buy guns and machine tools. We're happy

I have lots of 9mms and lots of 1911s, but I don't think i have a true 5" 1911 in 9mm.

I do have a EMP in 9mm, and a Para LDA/PDA in 9mm.
And I have 2 each Star B and BMs, which look and shoot just like a 1911 (but are not).
If you want something cool and different for the range, those Star bull are hard to beat. Well made, reliable, great trigger, accurate, cheap (but going up).
