The above link is to the site of Old Faithful holsters. The gentleman from there was a guest on the past Sunday's
(2/19/2012) Guntalk show on the radio.

Old Faithful offers ready-made holsters, but if you have a handgun for which it's hard to find a proper-fitting holster,
they offer DIY holster kits. They supply a high quality leather (made in the USA), the Kydex (50% thicker than most
holstermakers use), and the hardware.

You may need a customizable holster either because you have a rare gun for which no holstermakers have a model, or because
you have a more normal model of handgun, but it's customized with a laser or light on either the triggerguard or your
Picatinny rail. I'm not sure they'd have anything for a handgun with a bayonet. :-)

What's interesting about turning their "kit" into your finished holster is that you place the kydex into either a conventional oven,
set to 350 degrees or less, or you can purchase a used toaster oven for $5 or $10 at a local thrift store. If you get a used toaster oven,
you don't have to inconvenience Mama if she needs it for vittles. The reason for heating the Kydex is to make it soft and pliable in
order for it to mold itself to your gun's unique shape. It's possible that the serial number of your gun will transfer itself to the Kydex.

On the above site, read the "About Us". The owner is a perfectionist and has an IT degree. Video tutorials are on the site, showing
you how to use the holster kit to make a custom holster.

Pretty interesting clip about making holsters as described in the original post. It goes into some depth with tips, techniques, and supply sources. I have been studying it as I am considering making one for myself.

SIA, have you used one of their kits. I have been thinking of getting one, but haven't done it yet.

No, I am not handy. I posted this thread in order to share the information with those of you
who are handy, and may wish to create a nice holster for that unique handgun.

I posted the thread recently about the Airsoft machine gun that can be made from a soda bottle, a brake line,
and a few other parts. Just because I'm all thumbs doesn't mean that I won't share something cool with some
avid DIY guys.

I just made a kit of theirs for my XD-SC. I used a preformed kit since I didn't want to mess with the forming but from what I've seen it is pretty easy also. Just a little extra setup and effort. For the extra couple of bucks I saved my time :-)

The preformed kit took about 30 minutes to complete taking my time. Just trimmed the plastic and shaped/smoothed the edges with a dremel. Drill some holes and screw it all together.

It's a very comfortable holster all said and done. And most important, the price is right.
