I have not seen any discussions about these particular models and wondered if anyone owns one or tried them out. Any likes or dislikes?

I have a buddy who bought one. The ergonomics are good and his ran well. But if I were purchasing a Smith and Wesson I'd go with the M&P. It is just an all around better gun.

As I understand it, Smith and Wesson's pistol hierarchy is thus:

Sigma's - Lowest end of the 3. Heavy trigger, but it's a Smith so it goes bang every time. Always on sale at
Academy, usually < $300.
Available in 9MM and .40. No .45's.

SD/Self Defense - This is the middle level of Smith semi-auto's. There seems to be a dearth of
information or comments on SD's. No one on the board seems to own one, or if they do, they've been mum.
The models available are SD9 (9MM) and SD40 (.40). No .45's.

M & P / Military and Police - These are the best of the 3 levels. Available in .22, .357 Auto, 9MM, .40, and .45 ACP.

I sold a Glock 23 to someone who was eager to replace a SD in 40 cal. He didn't seem to care for it. I'd spring the cash for the M&P IMO.

I was recently helping my mother choose her first gun, and the Sigma and SD9 Were in the running. The sigma was pretty no frills, and neither of us really cared for it. The SD9 on the other hand felt pretty nice. It looked and felt like it had a more solid build quality than the Sigma did. Came with 2 mags and the thing I like most about it was the fact that it had a front night site.

Honestly, it came down to the fact that my mother liked the feel of the Sig SP2022 better. I think the SD9 would make a great low budget HD gun. Haven't really heard of any deal breaking issues about it, but you never know.
