CMP Documentation

So I have ordered a copy of my birth certificate from the great State of Texas. My initial goal was to get this in my hot little hands to send to the CMP to order an M1 Garand. My beloved wife has been after me to get a passport since I was simply her boyfriend. Does anyone here know if I can submit a photocopy of the said document to the CMP to prove citizenship, and then use the hard copy to get a passport? Or more to the point, do I need to order another copy to obtain said passport. I thank you in advance for your info.

When I ordered my M1 I sent them photocopies of my passport, TSRA membership card (qualifying CMP associate membership requirement), Texas DL and CHL. for good measure I also included a signed copy of my Type 03 C&R license along with the application. Six weeks later I had my garand in my hot little hands.

Hint: Do they ask for a certified copy or just a copy?

CMP accepts scanned/photocopies of a certified BC. Passport as you know requires an original which will be returned.

There I fixed it for you.............
My son, was born in (West) Germany. He has a Certificate of U.S. Citizen Born Abroad issued by the U.S. State Department. They did not return the document with his passport. The State Department then made him pay to get another official copy.

They also accept passport copies. From the CMP web site:
Proof of U.S. Citizenship: You must provide a copy of a U.S. birth certificate, passport, proof of naturalization, or any official government document that shows birth in the U.S. or states citizenship as U.S.

True but he doesn't have to wait for his passport to be issued to order from the CMP. He can do that with a copy of his birth certificate.

Thanks all, I appreciate the replies. Also aware that my reading comprehension isn't what it used to be.

I am getting antsy waiting for it to get here so's I can send off my paperwork. I REALLY want to get the rifle in time for my late April camping/shooting trip, and am really pushing close to the wire. I already have the adjustable gas valve and a repro M1907 sling for it (sadly the El Paso Saddlery booth at Big Town didn't have one.) I require a lot more "PING!" in my life. Once again, and as always, I thank you.

True also, but I was addressing the two posters who apparently sent
original passports and not copies, by quoting the CMP requirement that a passport copy was fine.
