sued for what kind of ammo we carry?

In CHL Instructor class, the DPS instructors were telling that we should be careful what kind of ammo we carry. That names like "Black Talon...It Tears Them Up" and "Zombie Max" could get us in trouble in a real shooting, as it could show we intentionally wanted to do extra damage. Question: Is anyone REALLY concerned with being sued over what kind of ammo they carry?

Find a new CHL instructor. Almost all of us use defense-rds, I carry Speer Gold-Dots, sounds like 007 bullets, no?
If you are afraid to carrry, "black talon", then get Winchester SXT, SXT stands for "Same Exact Thing" as Black Talon.

No, as I said it was the CHL INSTRUCTOR school taught by the DPS. They weren't concerned with defense rounds, it was the names they thought could get you in trouble. I just thought it weird, as names mean nothing. And no, I'm not afraid to carry what I think best, just never heard anyone say this before.

Ayoob wrote on that back in the 70s/80s
But his points were broader.
I beieve that It's partly due to his articles that popular gun names are "The Judge" and "Texas DEFENDER" and Ranger and snake slayer

I don't think it's much of an issue here, might be up in DC or New York where they make a big deal out of using an Austrian Military Pistol like the one that shot .....
And Ammo? Black Talon went through a name change due to that IIRC,
Still, not because of name, byr because of recoil/ballistics/reliability ... I use "critical DEFENSE"
And I use guns which the Police and Military typically issue and use, because they should know best.

...more Chicken Little thinking...some don't want us to relax and enjoy our 2A rights...want to keep us timid and worried...

That's what I'm thinking. I think it was the idea that all the extra bases they covered (ie, don't go past any no-gun-sign) would keep you out of trouble, or keep them out of trouble. BUT if I worried about all that, I could get in trouble with a bad guy sooner!

I carry Tap FPD. That way, if I ever find myself being questioned on my choice of ammo, I can tell them I went to the store and asked for some ammo
For Personal Defense, and that's what they gave me.

The DPS instructors are just like everybody else they have opinions and they express them. The name of the ammunition you use should have no bearing on anything. Now let's worry about something really important like, what's for lunch.

In the 80s, I used to mostly carry Silvertips ....I figured it was multi-purpose ... Lone Ranger liked Silver Bullets, and good for Vampires

Just finished up this disscussion on a different forum with some legal minds. And the conclusion was that they could not find a single incident where a the victim got in any legal trouble over the type of ammunition they used. Factory of any name or handloads. However a prosecuting attorney could try to make this argument, but an educated person should be more then capable defending their choice in ammunition. Hints if you use some ammunition because a buddy of yours told you it was better for whatever reason (stopping power, better expansion, etc...) then the prosecuting attorney has you. On the other hand if you are educated then you should have no worries. For example I load all my ammunition for reliability and accuracy and I can definitively say that every other consideration is secondary to those, and I definitively know that my ammunition meets those two criteria. Anything else. Well it is like this Terminal ballistics I only know for my hunting rifles but then again these are not CCWs. And if I am in fear for my life then I'm not running around thinking about what type of ammunition is in my firearm, my only concern stopping the threat.

...our words can make or break us...long before we get to the Grand Jury...the less inflammatory our speech about what we've got...what we'll do...the less to haunt us later...little birds sing to gain their 15 minutes of glory...if you don't talk in a bloodthirsty manner...all will be well...

Sounds like worthwhile advice. In a real shooting, I plan to say nothing w/o my lawyer anyway. J. Noble Dagget
