God Bless America, the movie

This looks interesting and amusing. Those of you that might remember Bobcat Goldthwait from his days in "Police Academy" might be interested to see he's taken his talents into directing with the new movie "God Bless America." Keep in mind this is a very NSFW dark comedy that assaults (literally) the basest parts of American pop culture. I'm looking forward to seeing it (but, to be honest, don't take my suggestion as something coming from a skilled movie critic. Heck, I'm looking forward to the new Three Stooges movie

)

I've been looking forward to this one for months now and can't wait for it to come out. I haven't stepped foot in to a movie theater in over 8 years, and I *will* for this one.

You don't even have to go to a theater. It will be available on demand starting April 6th here:

Glad to help you preserve that "no theater" streak

Perfect! Thanks for the heads up!

Yes.. YES.. YES!! I love where this is going!
It's hilarious. Don't judge it too much. I'm sure you felt like him at one time in your life or another.
Really though, love the humor.

Just as fair warning to those that think this skewers airheaded pop culture, Bobcat's movie also takes several stabs at right-wing style radio personalities as well in the movie. He emphasizes that it's "a violent movie about kindness" and it definitely doesn't portray conservative media as "kind." I think it will be a fun movie, but in the end, it's Hollywood. Take it for what it's worth.

So, I finally took the time to see this. It had some amusing moments, but I think it didn't work as well as it could have. I was right that he took shots (literally) at Tea Partiers and Glenn Beck-style personalities, as well as all the reality-TV tropes. I think he lost out by mixing attempts at dark humor with outright attacks on "right wing" positions. He could have done better by focusing more on a satirical approach, and taking the characters in another direction. About 2/3rds into the movie, you realize that he brings in a plot twist that shouldn't have happened, and the net result is that nobody learns any lessons in the end. Then again, perhaps that was his real point after all.

Reminds me of the movie "Falling Down". Similar idea behind it.

I think Falling Down was superior in every way.

It's difficult to top D-Fens' rampage.

I just finished watching "God Bless America". The trailer for it was interesting, but of course doesn't portray the movie accurately (do they ever?). They were definitely attempting to portray the conservatives/right/whatever negatively. I wasn't very impressed by the ending. Earlier in the movie, the main character expresses his views on the shortcomings of popular culture today, very well, but fails to do so at the end, when that's the last message those watching this movie will judge it by.
Now to watch "Falling Down", except that will have to wait until next week. I'm volunteering with the BP MS 150 this weekend.
God bless those who still make this a great country to live in.
