I think this might bring back family values. It would be nice to see the government finally stepping in and protecting the children. These are old fashioned values that our nation seems to have lost. I think it is child abuse to be a single parent or to divorce and punishing people for this might not be such a bad thing.

Though I do agree that family values have been greatly diminished over the years, I’d have to completely disagree with this bill. I personally believe we need far less government in our personal lives not more. Besides, divorce is big business for the states, no way this passes.

My single divorced mother would disagree with you if she were still alive, as would her two successful, happy boys, now grown men with kids of their own, who are grown men and women, happy and successful in there own right.

This bill is idiotic.

If I could just keep the conservative legislators out of my bedroom, get them to stop trying to force their own religious beliefs onto everyone else, I would be a huge fan! I'm not interested in a theocracy. Let's save that for the those Middle Eastern governments we love to hate.

And THIS (except my mom is still with us, and she raised two well balanced, happy girls).

And my own teenage daughter is a good kid, with good grades, who is about to graduate high school and then go through basic training and AIT so that she can serve her country with the National Guard while going through college.
She's never been abused, she doesn't have problems with drugs or alcohol, and she's been raised to work for what she wants, which is MUCH different than how many of her classmates were raised.
Most everything I've taught my daughter was taught to me by my mother.

I too, think the government should stay out of my personal affairs. I can do just fine on my own, thankyouverymuch.

The bill is asinine and to lump all single parents into one heap is too. There are lots of single parents out there that do a good job. As a child, it is often better to be raised in a loving single parent home than one that has an abusive spouse or where there is constant fighting. As mentioned, get rid of programs that encourage welfare and unwed mothers to have child to receive more $$$$ and you will have something.

This. If government would stop trying to tinker with society, we would be a lot better off. I don't care which political party thinks it is receiving Divine direction. We got into an employer healthcare relationship because government tinkered. We have more single parent homes than we would otherwise if government hadn't tinkered. We cannot legislate away the ills of society and every time that they try, things get a lot worse. THIS IS NOT A NANNY STATE!

the introduction of this bill, as well as all this other morality legislation, is why the GOP will loose 2012.

Plain and simple...we're going to get Obama for another 4 more years.

So...I was abused by my Mother because she separated from my alcoholic, drug abusing father? She had no values? The government needed to step in and "protect" me? Boy...you are sounding like quite the Liberal.

All I can do is shake my head. This isn't "Conservatism." It's Control and Propaganda. The bill shouldn't even make it out of committee. Even if it *weren't* objectionable from the nanny-state perspective, it would be nothing but a propaganda, brainwashing, and advertising campaign.

Why oh WHY would anyone support something like this.

And I simply love the vague statistics...20 times more likely to suffer abuse in a single-parent or step-parent home??? How's that not like saying that weddings are the leading cause of divorce--after all, in 100% of divorces, there was a wedding involved...
