My daughter is looking for a nice pocket 9mm and wants to try a Diamondback DB9. Does anybody know of a range in the DFW area that offers it for rental? maybe the LC9 too?

EDIT: She also wants to try a Kimber Solo.

Call Bullet Trap (Plano) and DFW Gun Range. I don't know if they rent those particular models but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Not sure but Targetmaster may rent handguns, haven't been there in a long time so I'm not sure.

Definitely call Bullet Trap. I rented an LC9 there, but it's not on their "Test Fire Guns" list on their website, so they may have the others too.

Called, they don't have a DB9. To be honest, I'd be surprised if anybody had one, they're pretty new and not that mainstream.

Have her go see Mark (manager) at Bullet Trap in Plano.
He's really good at listening to needs and translating it into gun choices to consider.
They do have a ton of rental guns to test out as well.
Ask him about the Kahr PM9 and Kahr P380 - these are really high quality & small carry pieces.

Be advised the DB9 is not a gun for beginners. The recoil is significant. However, if your daughter is experienced and can shoot it well, it does carry easy.

Um, she's a cop in Arlington going on her 5th year. She can handle it :)

Personally I would stay away from diamondbacks, I had so many issues with them I will not even sell them anymore. They would not pay for return shipping on failures with brand new guns then it was weeks to get them back. They are inexpensive for a reason....

I had a Kahr pm 9 several years ago and I got rid of it. It went back 2 times to be fixed. The magazine would fall out when it wanted to. I got rid of it and got a Taurus 709 have about 500 rounds through it with no issues.

On the subject of Diamondback DB9, my dad has their 380 and it has not had any problem with it. Not sure where you can rent one. Most places wont rent the smaller brand's. Wish they would because we have a lot of options out there and it would give us a better feel for the gun we want.

I believe Targetmasters in Garland rents and last time I was in there they had a good selection. We haven't been since Great Southwest Gun opened though. I believe Great Southwest also rents but not sure what they have.

Particularly interested in reliability.
I have a DB380 already, (unfired safe queen, love how it feels/angle grip etc, but carry other stuff, sights too small to use racking the slide.)
I kinda want an orange, Stainless, compensated barrel DB9 with tactical type night sights ... just because, though I'm sure it would have to be special ordered and partially assembled by me, but if I could use the night sights to rack the slide off my belt, I might even carry it as a BUG sometimes.
From what I've read, DB9s don't like every flavor of ammo, BUT Critical Defense is one of many Ammos it really likes to work with, IIRC, that info came from the Diamondback people, and that's my ammo of choice anyway.

Not sure how much she will be shooting it, since it's her backup weapon. She's never been the happy shooter type, but she's amazingly accurate. She's the type that just goes to her qualification tests, punches a ragged hole in a target, then goes back to work. I keep trying to get her to go into competitive shooting, and she just gives me the same eye-rolling look and says "Daaaaad." (just like when she was 9 ).

One thing I will say though: You should NEVER have a compensated pistol for a carry weapon. Those hot gases will make a hole in you just as bad as a bullet can, and just as painfully (I've experienced projectile gases being injected into my flesh -- it's painful to experience and it takes a LONG (and painful) time to heal). I'm not so sure I would want a gun firing at close quarters that can hurt people in two different directions.

If one guy is in front and another flanking me ... I consider it a benefit being able to surprise (ignite eyebrows of ) the other if I hold it sideways gangstah style.

Yeah, that's one of those things like touching a motorcycle muffler, no fun getting burned.
I know about the drawbacks and benefits of compensated guns, I prefer them as Primary weapons, my XD45, my Glock 19 and Glock 26 are compensated. My Taurus PT709, keltec p11 and pf9 of course aren't, so I "need" a pocket 9 that is.
