I am a Glock guy and want to start getting into doing trigger jobs, changing trigger pull, etc. I do NOT want to practice this on any of my current Glocks. I am sure during the learning process I am bound to scrap, scratch, damage, etc. the gun; and further more even if I don't do this, I want to not have to worry about it.

So I am thinking of buying a beater Police Trade In Gen 3 Glock 22 just for this purpose. Does anyone know if there are any substantial differences in the internals between Gen 3 and Gen 4?

The last thing I want to do is use a Gen 3 beater to learn with, and then have non of it apply to Gen 4 stuff I currently own.

All the internal are the same. The components. Are so cheap it really won't be that big of a deal if you screw something up.

The recoil springs/assembly are different.

damn forgot about that. ok..everything but the recoil spring is the same.

The trigger assembly is also different, but so different as to make a difference. I've actually put a Gen 3 trigger assembly in a Gen 4 gun at it works fine.

A -R Are you by chance a Glock armorer? I may need one if my late model Gen3 does not work right after shooting it. I understand Glock will only ship parts to a Glock armorer to make the fix on the Gen3's

Back on topic: Trigger group parts are same, recoil spring assemblies, magazines, and slides aren't. There's a few other minor differences, but those are the big ones.

Working on Glocks is so easy, even I can do it.
I actually learned before I went to the armorers course. Watching a few youtube videos will really help. And don't worry, if you screw it up it will still work. ...it's a Glock

Some of those YouTube videos make me cry. The one where the guy vigorously drove out the slide lock pin with a hammer...

Does anyone know of a place that has a class on Glocks (kind of like Shootsmarts 1 day AR class)?

True. It's probably best to watch several and pick the one's where the person actually seems to know what they are doing. In all honesty, I've never watched any of them. I was taught by my boss. By the time I went to the coarse I breezed through it.

No I'm not a certified Glock armorer - just a garage tinkerer (scariest type of person in all of gun nuttery ) who was taught by an armorer (ex-armorer) in a few minutes then practiced using Internet how-tos (try Glockmeister.com for how tos and parts).

If you want certified, I can vouch for Old Cannon as a knowledgeable guy (though never used this particular service from him).

By the way, if you just want a complete refurb, give Glock a call and they will give you the information on where to send it to.
