So I hope this is the right thread... I moved to California in 2007 for work and moved back nearly a year ago. While I was in CA I didn't shoot.... at all... So I came back to Texas and have decided to get my CHL. A funny thing happened in 4 years... my shooting skills deteriorated... more precisely my vision has deteriorated. I have to wear reading glasses and I noticed when I was trying to get sight alignment if I was focused on the front sight it made the target blurry enough to where it is hard to pick out my spot on the target. It wasn't a big deal at 3 yards but more of an issue at 7 yards and a major issue at 15 yards. Now the carry gun i am planning on buying I will get a laser sight to aid in aiming under stress but for this test I just have my old standby. Has anyone else experienced this and if so was there something that you used to help get passed it? I am not worried about failing the test since I am still a good shot but it was bothersome at the range....

I also noticed that after 4 years my sights are off down and to the left...

Welcome to the forum and unfortunatly as age sets in the eyes are the first to go. I have the same problem so have gone with mono vision contacts, they work for me out to 15 yards and I can see my sights and the target although it is slightly blurred. 15 yards tends to be the longest practice shot I take with a handgun, actually all my practice is at either 11 or 15 yards as anything closer is a point and click type of shot. My suggestion is to practice dry firing a lot and learn the exact spot the trigger will break, this will allow you to not have your sights lined up on the target the whole time and get any slack out of it, sounds a bit silly but worked for me. Also conside a contrasting color on the front sight, nail polish works well as a trial although if you have night sights I would not use it without a piece of tape. I highly recommend the contrasting color scheme. I have TruGlo red on the back, green on the front. It doesnt matter if they are a little blurry, I can still make it out this way.
