In Texas, how do you transport an illegal knife/Sword?

The important part is bolded and unlined. So if you were to put it in the trunk of a vehicle it would not be "on or about his or her person."


Sec. 46.02. UNLAWFUL CARRYING WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly carries on or about his or her person a handgun, illegal knife , or club if the person is not:

(1) on the person's own premises or premises under the person's control; or

(2) inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control.

I asked, cause I think MPA covers illegal knife/sword. 2) it means it is ok if the sword was in your car. It is illegal to carry it at your side in a sheath and walk in the park.

So if you read the MPA, being in a vehicle you own/control is an exemption to the prohibition of carrying a handgun, or illegal knife, or club.

So Bowie knives, swords etc being transported in your POV is just fine.

Safest to transport the blades in the trunk so there's no confusion but not necessary for MPA technically. Also I think a sealed box is OK even carried by hand but IANAL.

They go in the trunk if in the car, if in the tahoe I put in the the back in section where spare tire tools are. Neither would be easy to get to. Only have a bowie knife that falls under this and it usually just sits on desk in gun room.

I'm sorry, I'm must not be reading this right. From what I see they can be anywhere in your car you like including on your person because of #2 "inside of or directly en route to a motor vehicle or watercraft that is owned by the person or under the person's control."

This is where I put them, they might be allowed anywhere in the car. But would you want to go sit in jail while a cop figures it out. Only time I have a large knife is when I am going hunting and have never been pulled over withone in car. A guy at work has been taken in for a shotgun that was legal, but they checked the lenght several times, called ATF to verify ect, he spent 4-5 hours waiting for it to get cleared up. I try to avoid anything that is iffy, Just personal choice.
