I give you the Mossberg 464:

A lever rifle tricked out like an AR15, shooting a caliber with ballistic similarity to the 7.62x39.....everything the tactical cowboy could need.

Talk about a useless design. Why corrupt a perfectly good rifle like that. If an AR style rifle is what you want then just get one, they can be had an a very large variety of calibers these days. As for lever action I still have a Marlin 30-30 and it a good rifle. But the only reason I still have it is sentimental value.

Nothing wrong with having options. I've run into some people who like that thing... I don't, but I don't see anything wrong with it except that to me it looks silly.

Hummm! Maybe I'll add a green light laser on my 336 Texan.

I agree it looks kinda silly, I can see how people will like it though.

Other than the stock I could get used to it. Its been a while since I ran a levergun but I do know people that can run one so that its every bit as effective as a semi-auto and even more versatile. Now there are people out there who will doubt me but take a .357 or .44 magnum (.44 prefered) chambered gun loaded to capacity with the weaker cartridge (.38 or .44 special)and run it like a shotgun. When you Shoot one you load load one, if you need more power load a .44 mag and either fire the one in the chamber or work the lever. What a shot shell for some reason? theres those as well. Want a hollow point instead of a hard cast lead flat nose? load it in. Running a lever gun or a shotgun very well is an art form, when done right they can make extremely effective tools and adding rails only gives you options like you get with a railed AR or AK.
BTW, I plan to fix my haven't run a levergun in a while problem this week when I take what I think is the most impractical levergun ever out to the range. Its a Rossi Ranch Hand (Mares leg pistol) in .44 mag. It may be impractical but it will be fun.
