To my fellow forum members,

After working very hard for the past two years, I have (finally) achieved a sizable raise from my employer. I plan on spending some of my new discretionary income to fund a few new toys as a reward to myself.

Two of those toys are NFA items that I’ve dreamt about since I could shoot on my own, however, I keep questioning the obvious in the back of my mind on whether my special ‘purchase’ might indeed become a ‘rental,’ or some other type of burden, especially if the current presidential administration progresses negatively towards firearms, rights, laws, etc.

My question to fellow contributors is this:

After submitting all necessary paperwork to the knowingly-corrupt BATFE in order to complete an NFA purchase, does anyone think this information will be abused in the form of confiscation and/or other infringements that would affect me or my family in the future?

Sometimes I think it’s a ridiculous question, but every time I see the faces of Sotomayor or Ginsburg, I am reminded of how completely legitimate the concern actually is.

I would greatly appreciate serious responses only, please and thank you.

The government is well known for changing the rules to suit their own needs while overlooking individual rights. At the same time always remember we have checks and balances in place for a reason. The office of President is in the executive branch for a reason and the legislative branch hold all law making authority. With that being said, what does it matter? If you have the cash and want the gear then I say get it.

I have the same response to anyone who is worried about future gun grabs. Do you know ANYONE who would be willing to come to your door and tell you they are taking your guns? They might find recruits for the first couple weeks but it would be really hard to convince people to sign up for a suicide mission.

I've never imagined that the potential abusive 'confiscation' would be Katrina-like.

I've always envisioned it more as a "turn them in" situation, or become a felon. For example, a gun-owner's information could being used against a him, say on a traffic stop. Just like our CHL information is available to law enforcement, some other alert would pop-up showing the driver as a gun-owner. Records would show he purchased an NFA item in 2012 and never turned it in, therefore providing a basis for arrest and probable cause to search everything.

Another concern I have is that information being distributed to the public/media, intentionally or recklessly, just as some states experienced with CHL-holder personal information.

Maybe I should just buy the stuff and worry about it later. haha It just drives me crazy thinking about what could happen.

I've thought about this as well as I lust after some NFA goodies.

Lets put it this way. Have you ever filled out a 4473? Been a member of the NRA? Subscribed to a gun magazine? Bought ammo/gun accessories online with a credit card?

If there's a "list".....I'd say we're all probably already on it. At this point I wouldn't worry about being on the list one more time.

I would hate it if my guns were stolen and thus not able to turn them in.

Having lived in a country with registration (and therefore confiscation), its certainly a legitimate concern, but its not something I'd worry about here.

Its likely at least one of those 3 letter agencies is probably 'monitoring' this forum anyway, nevermind all the other ways to end up on a 'list', so what's one more list? :-)
