Here's my dilemma (and it stinks): I am in a cash crunch and need to sell one of my two carry guns - either my Glock 27 Gen 3 40. OR my Smith M&P Shield 9mm.

Obviously I like them both, but haven't shot either of them. They are new.

Glock 27: I love the Glock for its reputation, the way it feels in my hand, and the sights. It has the stock sights, which I really like. When I practice and bring it up, it is very easy and natural for me to get it on target easily. The only negative is it's a little heavier and thicker than the Shield.

M&P Shield: I like this one a lot as it is more convenient to carry (I carry in pocket with pocket holster) as it is lighter and thinner. It is getting great reviews. The negative is that the sights are so so, as when I pull it up, they are smaller dots that aren't as bright as the Glocks. Also, it feels OK in my hand, but not as nice as the Glock.

As far as power, the Glock is a .40 and the Shield is a 9mm.

I am leaning slightly on the Glock, but I love how light and concealable the Shield is.

One has to go ASAP.

Opinions? (disregard the fact that I haven't fired either. Not going to happen now as I want to sell one as a new, unfired gun)

I would keep the Glock. It has been around awhile and has been proven over and over. If I had to choose it would be the Glock.

You could unload that Shield quickly - they're hard to find right now.

I had other carry guns, but sold them and got the G27 and the Shield recently. Havent had the chance yet.

So, you are carrying one or more handguns for self defense that you've never fired?

How do you know whether they will work of you need it to save your life?

Many will attest that the Glock is proven in that department. Shield? Too new to tell yet.

I just recently sold my shield and kept the Glock 26 I have. I did not find the shield to be much of a difference size wise and in 400 rounds I had multiple jams. My 26 has not had one in over 1500 rounds and with the shield being in high demand i pretty much got back what I paid for it, I purchased it because I was looking for something more compact.

I had a Glock that would go bang one time, then fail to cycle, a spring change and it was serviceable, until the next failure. It was a lemon. Just because it shares the same name as guns that have never failed to fire even when empty doesn't mean yours will fire under ideal conditions. I would personally take both to the range and see if they work properly, if one doesn't its the one to go. If I needed cash and they both work properly I would put them both up for sale, then when the first one sells I would keep the second.

Sorry. Not an intent to sell here. Just seeking opinion.

My vote is keep the Glock. I have a Beretta PX4, a S&W MP-9c, and a Glock 23 (4th Gen). I like all of them, but would only carry one. I had a G27 for a while, but wanted a bigger grip. I was always skeptical of Glocks...until I owned one. I have put 5,000+ rounds through each, and never had ONE failure. Any manufacturer will have issues from time to time, but in my experience, Glock malfunctions are few and far between. I'd go with the one that has more proven dependability since it will be your carry. Just my two cents...good luck.

My vote is to shoot them both and see which one feels better to you and shoots reliably

I own an M&P45 which I like very much and I love the idea of the Shield (I usually carry a single stack Kahr or a 1911), but I'd have to agree with those who say keep the Glock and sell the Shield. The Glock is proven and it's versatile. The Shield is a new model (even if it is based on the M&P platform) and more likely to be subject to bugs. Plus, they are hard to find right now and you'll get a better ROI on the Shield than on the Glock.

THAT SAID: Shoot both before you decide! You can't really make an informed decision (everyone here's opinions notwithstanding, including mine) until you do that. But if you can't bring yourself to shoot them before selling one of them, then keep the Glock.
