The system itself sounds like an overkill, probably pushed for and required by the fine folks in Philthadelphia...I doubt there is anything sinister in the upgrade, they're just doing it in a manner easiest for the state and who cares about folks wanting to buy guns...a couple of days inconvenience, so what, right?

As far as I can tell, you don't need to provide fingerprints in PA to buy a gun. It makes no sense to stop gun sales while they upgrade the FINGERPRINT ID system. :confused5

"HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Gun sales in Pennsylvania will come to a temporary halt Saturday night while Pennsylvania State Police replace their fingerprint identification system.

Because the system must be shut down, gun shops will not have access to background checks."

What can we do to insure this type problem does not happen in Texas?

Have your CHL so you bypass a NICS check. Additionaly, it sounds like PA has a state check that is done. Texas only requires NICS and don't believe it has any type of query back into a state system when the check is ran.
