Last night I watched Smallville. The character Lex Luthor pointed a gun at Clark Kent. And ya know what? His finger was NOT inside the trigger guard! I was so surprised. Usually these actor-types don't have safe gun-handling skills. I was impressed.


(We can't really get him on pointing the gun at a person, since he was intending to possibly shoot Clark.)

If the bad guy shoots Superman, he stands there with his hands on his hips while the bullets bounce off. And then when the BG runs out of ammo and throws the gun at him... Superman ducks?

I don't know why Superman ducks. I guess they have to make something look like a fight.

As old as that observation is, no one has ever gotten it right. You'd think by now that someone would replace the prob with soft foam or something so they could throw it and the actor wouldn't have to duck.

I'm finally getting into "Lost," and while watching the first season was on edge all the time because every time they handled guns, they had their fingers on the trigger!!!! Even while they pulled the slide back and loaded the weapon!!

While I agree this is true with most actors, directors, producers and the like, and I haven't really paid that much attention (I know I should), consider who the characters are... Kate and Sawyer are criminals, What's-his-name-hobbit is a druggie, Jack is a doctor with may have SOME experience with guns, Locke is a self-taught newbie (as it appears so far). The only one with experience is Sayid and who knows what they are taught in the Republican Guard. It looks like the Others may have some knowledge, but as I said, I don't know if they were handling guns properly or not.

Anyway, they are all actors with the very likely possibility they are anti-gun anyway.

But, excellent observations from MrD and VenusPAX, I'm going to start paying more attention.

Yeah--- you're right. I guess not everyone knows the rules in the first place!

Hehe you watch smallville too? I haven't kept up with it but I would like to. Usually I only expect teens and 20 somethings to watch smallville.

Smallville is #3 on my dvr priority list (and I'm way older than 20 something)

From the beginning the ONLY charectors on the show using unsafe gun practices were small time street hoods and Clohe who knows nothing about guns. Lex and Lionell frequently pull guns and their trigger fingers would satisfy the most safety nazi SO around.

Clark ducks alot because of two things 1. He is not fully aware of all his powers 2. He is still Clark and therefore pretends to be as human as possible.

For instance a bg hit him in head one time with an ax (with cool ax head shatter affect) and he ducked at last sec.

I watch smallville as well. but speaking of T.V and guns ...

Last night on CSI: Miami one of the team was shot in the head by a ".223 caliber Ruger 1022" that has ammo that can be used in a hand gun as well as a rifle. ... lol

Interestingly enough, the slug they showed while she was saying ".223 . . ." appeared to be a .22LR, which would be an amazingly accurate portrayal for such a show. And the one thousandth of an inch difference in diameter (.22LR is nominally .224) could be almost forgiven, except that they were immediately off searching for a handgun, swabbing the security guard's RIGHT hand for GSR when even the most neophyte firearms enthusiast knows that there have been many more .22LR rifles produced than handguns. And then it got magically narrowed down to a 1022.

My wife is a BIG fan of all the CSI shows, even though I sit there and snipe at the techniques, magic bullets, psychic powers, and so on, of the characters. When I pointed out that they were showing a .22LR slug, and that they were looking for the wrong gun, she gave me a salute (single digit) and had to take it back.

Even when they get it right, they get it wrong. Makes me want to puke.

's like watching ER and seeing them make a diagnosis off of an upside-down X-Ray.

I just chuckle and shake it off as intentional just for us bums that actually catch that kinda stuff.
