Ignoring all the privacy and overreaching-government issues, people who make statements like,
Some Raving Idiot wrote:If I were empress of the Universe I would insist on every individual having a unique ID permanently attached – a barcode if you will; an implanted chip to provide an easy, fast inexpensive way to identify individuals.
It would be imprinted on everyone at birth. Point the scanner at someone and there it is.
Anonymity would be impossible as would mistaken identity making it easier to place responsibility accurately, not only in war but also in non-combat situations far from the war
never seem to realize the possibility of errors in the database. Everyone whose SS# has ever been stolen or recorded incorrectly can probably attest to the royal pain it is to get such thing ironed out, and that's without everyone using it for everything.

I was raised in a religious family. Pentecostal folks, in fact. I, however, despite having religious beliefs, haven't been all that much of a church-goer during the two decades of my military career. But I'll tell you one thing: if this woman isn't describing a "mark of the Beast" meets Big Brother-is-watching-you, well I haven't heard another thing that fits that well. People sometimes ask what sort of thing would be a "go" to take up arms in a rebellion; THAT would be one of those things, at least for me.

Get outta my head!
The only problem is that by the time that is instituted, the time to fight is long past.

It isn't going to happen for a number of reasons. Religious freedom first gets in the way. I know many folks (perhaps some here) are, shall I say, cafeteria Christians. Not meaning to offend anyone, but some people take religion literally and some don't, choosing to pick and choose those aspects that they are happy with, or which are convenient. Levit 19:28 is pretty specific in stating that you will not damage the skin, a la tattoos and such, but many Christians do anyway. An orthodox Jew who observes the Law would never allow anything be done such as a tattoo, or a bar code, or any other permanent device. Just won't happen, and religious freedom guarantees the government won't do this.
Secondly, the march of technology gets in the way. There are octogenarians reading this and you know for yourself how things have changed. Even during the computer era, try to find a floppy disk reader. No not one of the 3.5 inch or 5.25 inch, but the big one. Your movies have gone from Beta to VHS to CD to DVD to Blueray, and I bet I'm missing something.
Third, identification theft is a huge problem right now and will only get worse. If you have a chip that can be read, someone you don't want to read it will, and then he can replicate the information. Think about the fun the criminal justice system would have with false identification and false convictions based on chip evidence.
It isn't going to happen.

This remind anyone else of the tattoos used to by Nazi's to identify Jewish workers (the one's not immediately murdered) in Auschwitz during the Holocaust?

Gotta wonder if she really thinks this or if it's just a publicity-troll trying to get attention or divert it from something else...
Just can't fathom this line of thinking...

I understand the logic you are attempting to bring to bear. However, I NEVER trust any utterance of "it can't happen here". That has been said too many times as "famous last words". And religious freedom, along with the other freedoms Americans enjoy, are only guaranteed as long as there is a populace willing to "cause a ruckus", of whatever level, in defense of said freedoms. Otherwise, they are nothing more than a handout to peasants from royalty, no matter what they want to call themselves. Yeah, I know...I'm not a tough guy, just a mechanic. But then again, I've never been forced to become a tough guy, either...and hope I never have to...because I've gathered it ain't as cool as they make it look on TV.

If this person is such a believer in this, well, I suggest she go ahead and tattoo 666 right on her forehead...

It isn't going to happen.
It illustrates what those in power WANT to happen.....what actually will happen is something else again. But what I highlighted in red....seriously? Based on what? The government's rigid adherence to following the Constitution so far?
Something like this is unlikely to happen all at once....those in power aren't stupid. In the beginning it will be voluntary. It will be "marketed" as a convenience. You'll go through airport security faster, you won't have to carry a checkbook or cash, you won't need to carry ID, etc. At the next step that "convenience" will become something of a necessity, as those who don't have the implant, or whatever, will have repeated hassles over their identity. The process will be facilitated by measures such as banning cash transactions...like is already being done in places in Europe. Only when a majority of people are using the system "voluntarily" will using it become mandatory. If by that time there is even a pretense to concern about religious freedom, it will simply be determined to be one of those "sacrifices" necessary for our safety and ruled not to be an infringement. Those who have already accepted it will repeat big brother slogans like --if you've nothing to hide you've nothing to fear," etc, and those who oppose being "implanted" or "marked" will be branded as "conspiracy theorists" and "nuts" by the media and the majority of the country that have already accepted it as necessary for their "safety."
